Do a visual under the hood. Check vacuum lines to see if there is any broken or disconnected. The other problem could be the IAC. Idle air control.

Still searching the right answer on Jag S TYPE- HIGH RPM PROBLEM - RPM won't pull back when foot taken off accelerator when coasting. RPM will match the running speed of vehicle. and stay the

Hi Richard, I'm not an expert on Jags, just a little jealous I don't have one. Looks like a very nice vehicle. Have a close look, inspecting all hoses and vacuum pipes on the intake manifold side of the engine for any damage or loose fitting. The problem seems to be a leakage of air which is raising the idle speed. Regards John

Engine wont back off speed when foot taken off accelerator

low voltage to the Throttle Body unit causes this problem along with a dirty buttery fly . Have the throttle body cleaned asper Jaguar cars service spec and replace the throttle body motor relay located in the engine compartment center row 2nd back . Then dissconnect the battery for 30 minutes and reconnect .

Will not run if it starts as soon as you let of the gas it dyes may start and may not

To understand the problem with your car, you must first understand that when you are pressing down on the accelerator pedal with your foot, you are NOT "stepping on the GAS". You are actually stepping on the AIR. If you are having to open the accelerator in order to get the engine started, it is because the engine is not getting enough air to start on it's own. When you let up on the accelerator, you are shutting off the air.
It is the job of the Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid (or motor) to allow enough air into the engine so the engine can idle when the accelerator is closed.

You MOST LIKELY have a bad IAC.

Idle high then cut off

Most likely need the idle readjusted. Your vehicle has a high idle rev limiter that will shut down the motor to keep it from getting damaged. Make sure your accelerator line isn't being pulled on. This will pull on the gas pedal just like having a foot on it and will rev the motor as well.

Check the throttle position sensor"tps",or the idle air control "iac" by chance did the battery go dead or was unhooked?
if so the ecu was reset and needs to relearn idle settings by just keeping it running for a few minutes
