Did you check fuse 7 20amp and fuse 5 10amp. Also the ground wire for the instrument cluster is under the drivers seat rear section ??

most likely it is in the car under the dash. You also have one under the hood but I don't suspect these fuses are in their.

My info only says its in the junction box

  • Susan Price Jan 30, 2010

all cars and trucks have fuse boxes in the vehicle. Some have two junction boxes in the vehicle. Your just going to have to look for it. It may be under beside the steering wheel or even on the side of the dash by the driver door

  • Susan Price Jan 30, 2010

It sounds like you have a short somewhere. Maybe inside a wiring harness. These Jeeps are known for having electrical issues. You may need to replace the harness from the cluster to the fuse box in the engine compartment.

You will need to open the harness and test for shorted wires before you hook up another cluster.

The one you just installed may be bad now.

  • Susan Price Jan 30, 2010

the black and white wire is key on power from fuse 5, the violet wire is key off power. Both go into the cluster.

  • Susan Price Jan 30, 2010

by the way if your not blowing fuses then any compontent that is after the cluster like the fuel pump. alternator, speedo or so could have a short in the wiring or in the component itself. This could be why your cluster is failing and not blowing fuses in the fuse box.

Once you told the whole story I was able think deeper on this matter. This wasnt about loosing power. It was about two parts possible failing due to a deeper issue.

Next time tell the whole story so as not to waste time back tracking. Alot of testing will need to be done before you hook up another cluster. I mean alot. Every component that goes into the cluster will have to be checked for a short or a short in the wiring or maybe even in a computer.

Check for a bad connection at the info center, and of course, check the voltage to the center to make sure it is getting the current to it,if it is not, replace the ignition switch,if all fuses are good.

Look for a delay relay,in the fuse/relay box, this may be the problem, also, unplug unit, and wait a couple of minutes ,and plug it back in,see if it comes on,then off again, and listen for a relay,it will be that relay. When you do this, test the connector again to see if the voltage is absent.

I can't get the vehicle information center in my 96 Jeep grand Cherokee to work no lights, warning, nothing, can't locate exact fuse but all looks good?

I would start with the Fuse Box under the hood. Start by pulling the Fuse's 1 at a TIME!! I have done it befor time & time agean. It's probley by the Battery. It's a black box that has " Main Fuse " or something alone that line. There just like the Fuses under the Dash, BUT BIGGER! They can be hard to tell if they blew. I have done it so, much that I know. If it's not that I would check the Fuse Box in the Dash. Jerry Dunn

Will 96 rear end work in a 99 grand cherokee

A 96 Grand Cherokee rear end is not compatible with the 99. The Grand Cherokee changed body styles in 99, and among other things, the bolt pattern for the wheels changed.

Tp fuel pumps from same year different wireing

What you brought is an tank and unit from 1995 JGC. from 1993 till 1995 they have the same fuel pump. 96'er Jeeps start with OBD - Systems and they have other fuel pumps. You can't change the plug ins, because you may have other fuel filter in your Granny. Check filter and fuel lines if they fit with the unit you brought. If not, you need another unit from a real 96'er Jeep

the info center was not working in my 96 jeep when i got it. it serves no major purpose other than a clock and to let you know when your doors are open. i replaced mine the part itself can be found at junkyards fairly cheap. i paid $65 for mine. and now i wish i had left it alone. constant annoyances and chimes.
