Question about 2005 Mazda Tribute

3 Answers

We just replaced our battery yesterday, and this morning, the car was slow to turn over. Our tribute only has 80,000 mi., and has never had mechanicle problems. Is there something I should be looking to replace?

Check the alternator drive belt tension . Then the alternator and voltage regulator. to do this, with the running and lights on ,check the voltage across the battery terminals with a vault meter around13.5 to 15 volts is ok, if 12 volts or lower the alternator or regulator is at fault.

Check the battery terminals and be sure they are tight...This sounds like a classic loose or bad connection at the battery post. Also, verify the battery voltage. It should read 12.7 volts @ 70 degrees and will read lower...aound 11.9 - 12.0 in cold temps.

Maybe you should start replacing some clutch linings so that it can ride smoothly as it is before

Mazda Tribute won't start and has no electricity

This is a common problem with Mazda tribute and Ford escape. Replace the ignition switch. Actually, if you close the doors and turn everything off. Insert key and turn to on position, do not start, verify all dashboard lights come on. If they are, just press key in and jiggle around a bit, then try starting, u may have to do it a couple of times to start it. But, change the switch and possibly the key tumbler..do switch first and test. .then key tumbler if not successful. Both parts should cost less than $80..good luck.

P.S. you can replace the switch yourself, remove steering column 4 screws, switch has a yellow or white markings and is on the left of the column opposite the key side.
