Question about 1998 Ford Escort

1 Answer

Shaking from engine

I am looking at buying a car and I just have a question. The guy is stating that it needs a trans mount. He said that the engine is shaking more than it should when you accelerate. How would I be able to tell if it needs a new trans mount or not? It is a 1998 Ford Escort LX 4 dr Sedan. I would appreciate ANY help that I can get.

I can tell you that these cars all wear out those mounts, very commom.

And that mount being out will cause the problems you described, hes probably right.

You might tell him if hes so sure that is the problem, and if he wants to sell the car, to split the cost 50/50 with ya then see what he says.

My 1995 isuzu pickup manual transmission.is shaking & vibrating while driving. What's the cause if this

1: engine misfiring, that be first to discover,. as if it does all things shake.

2: or just the shift lever is loose.. not the transmission actual shaking? y/n

3: ok it is not engine misfire or loose shifter, the box does shake.

so bad u-joins, or loose engine or trans mount.

4 :or bad transmission, (we use a stethoscope to listen to the box)

as you can see the process of elimination proves each.

so if all are good, then u-joints are bad.

ever test them? using HANDS ON WAY

turn them and look for the illegal play, seening play in the U-joint star ends, to yoke, the joint is bad, (man handle it. is what we do)

or watch 1000 youtubes of same. where guy levers it and sees and shows you what bad looks like, i cant tell you in words.

its called experience.

or get the car serviced?????

what is play, play is what happens with the bearing fails.

the bearing fails and the U-joint , now moves in bad ways.

its loose. and when loose, makes noise and for sure can shake.

the more play the more noise,.

and if it lets go, big bad happens. ever seen a car pole vault.

What would cause truck to shake very hard or rough when starting?

I really need to know the mileage.....?..also the question isn't very clear ...Is the whole truck shaking roughly or is the engine shaking roughly or is it both the engine and truck shaking..?..Since I am not sure I will answer what I can....Ok......If the truck is shaking while sitting still at idle the engine/trans mounts could be worn and or loose mounting hardware...If the engine is running roughly at idle causing all to shake that bad it could be a number of things causing it as usual...Quite often a faulty plug wire/and or bad plug will make it have a misfire because it will be running on only 5 cylinders..If that's the case it could be more than one bad...A vacuum leak will cause it to perform in the same manner...however all cylinders will be firing..Normally a vacuum leak is easy to pinpoint..however it could be a faulty IAC valve..(IDLE AIR CONTROL)..The idle air control is designed to hold a high idle at start up then slowly bring idle down to proper Rpm.....A faulty TPS (THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR) will also cause a rough running problem..And let's not forget the O2 sensor..(OXYGEN SENSOR)..The O2 sensor controls air/fuel mixture...and yes an exhaust manifold gasket will make it run rough but not too bad...It has a rough running sound more so than causing it to horribly shake..It will shake but not to bad..
it is located at the exhaust side of engine..The exhaust manifold is mounted to the engine exhaust port..the exhaust pipe is mounted to the exhaust manifold and the muffler/cat converter is mounted to the exhaust pipe...You can check the plug wires quickly..With engine running carefully remove plug wires 1 at a time..If the sound of engine gets worse the wire you removed is good..after verifying it is good or bad plug wire back on then pull the next wire..and so on..If you pull a wire off and there is no change in engine operation that is the bad wire..If that is the case change all plugs and wires...One at a time..(It is a good idea to make sure all wires come off easily before starting engine..old wires will come apart easily..grasp wire tightly at boot and twist left to right while pulling..)as far as the other components I spoke as well as many others, the best, easy way is to have it hooked to a scanner and they can check/test all components for proper operation...Now..If it runs good but is shaking the engine/trans mounts are worn as I stated earlier..any loose engine component will cause an engine shake also but you should notice it at a glance...engine mount bolts/nuts being loose can be tightened without changing mounts if caught in time..Trans could be coming loose.also worn clutch will cause vibration...Send more info and I can guide you to remove and replace any faulty components you may find to save you money.........Brooks/Metalpoet.....

2005 chrysler town and country when i start the van it shaking vibration hard in park and in reverse it and in neutral and in drive it perfect.it drives good on highways no shaking

try to increase the idle-rpm..
Example - at standstil condition when you start your van, have look at rpm... say 1000 or 1200 or 1500.. whatever it may be..
Keep idle-rpm a little bit higher, if previously it was 1200rpm then set it to 1500 rpm..
If the problem is solved then..
1) clean ur airfilter
2) check spark plug condition
good or bad... if bad then replace..
3) check fuel supply line, if it is damaged or folded

Engine shaking

sitting for long time a car can build up condensation(moisture) on wires and fuel system and make it "MIss" or shake this usually goes away after engine comes to operatating temperature

if it's shaking so bad it looks like it's comming out of there Motor mounts are worn /broken and sorry to say that was a common problem with those cars
after they had a some long miles put on them
that's gonna need a mechanic to replace them

My 2003 neon vibrates heavily even at idle more so when i gas. the guy i bought from said he just replaced the motor mounts?

Check the mounts are secured correctly.

When engine is cool to touch try gtrabbing it and shaking it while looking at each mount to check for excessive movement

Trans mount?

The moun sounds like it is probably bad. But you are addressing SHAKING. Most motors don't SHAKE. It may have a miss to it or not be running smoothly. It may need a tune up or have bad gas. Just remember this car is 12 years old and may need some simple TLC.

How to check bad trans mount...

To check it you need to use a pry bar and rock the motor around, as well as use a jack to raise the engine/trans assembly and see if the mount has too much play.

Goto any major parts store and buy the manual for the car its $15, or they usually will let ya look at it to see what ya need, but buying an older car i recomend buying the book, plus it will tell you exactly how to change the mounts, as well as many other repairs

Toyota vits 2005 shaking engine

Very possibly you have a bad motor mount. Is the engine missing or running smooth but shaky? If it is missing, then it may be plugs, wires, or injectors, if runs fine but shaky, then you may have a bad motor mount.

My car starts to shake after about 35-45 mph

rack and pinion is the steering wheel joint, so if the steering wheel shakes or handling has decreased, then i would say it is the rp. , also check the wear on the tires for uneven wear, it could be alignment, does the steering pull to one side? it could be motor mounts just find the bolts and check em wiht a torque wrench, also inspect mounting bushings as well. to check trans. give it alot of gas to get past 35-45 mph and the shaking should go away at higher speeds, if it doesnt then its the trans missing "third".
