First. Was it winterised? If not, and it's parked where it can be very cold. Check the block/radiator/freeze plugs and heater core. If it was winterised, disregard.
Install a new battery.(you know about the alt.)Old one
may be to flat to jump. I don't know if you're "buying"
or own this truck. So we'll go basic.Pull the coil wire
and make sure it turns over evenly.(quick bad valve test) Check all fluids, start the truck. Listen for any
knocks or raps. If it's a 4wd put transfer case in
neutral put in 2nd gear let out clutch give it a min.
Then listen for loud bearings or strange noises.
Do the same thing in the other gears.
That's about it. Hope I was of some help.
Good luck.

Your first concern will be lubrication. remove the coil wire and crank over till the oil pressure reads on the guage. #2 your fuel is probably bad. drain tanks and replace filter and refill with fresh gas. sitting that long the gas may also of done harm to your fuel pump so if it does not start chk to see if your getting fuel. if not a new pump may be in order.

2008 F350 Super Duty batteries and alternators keep dying. Why???

If you are buying rebuilt parts you might consider buy new you didn't mention how long they have been lasting so it's a guess! If you are buying new Original Ford Parts then the concern is the alternator going out they have been known to go out, but rarely! That might take some professional assistance.

Hope it helps!
Good Luck

2002 blazer has tbl starting and staying started. It has been thourly tuned up by reliable mech. also when trying to start it seems to temoparily short out battery

You sure it seems to be a battery/electrical issue? Blazers are known to have their fuel pump go out after about 8-10 years. If it starts but won't stay on....thats not a battery issue. Its either fuel, oxygen, or the alternator.

Mazda protige 1997 overheating

Some restrictive pulley tension usually is what causes a good belt to wear prematurely. Sounds like the water pump may be the culprit all along...(one of 2 belts) Be sure to have the alternator itself tested (free) at most parts stores...could be a combination of concerns. Hope this helps.

2004 Audi A6 2.7T S-Type I have a battery and/or altinator issue. Last nite the battery indicator came on in the dash (not in the center display). The volt meter keept going lower until the radio quit...

doug hard688, It sounds like you have an alternator issue here. The volt meter monitors the output of the alternator. The battery indicator will come on when you have a bad or weak alternator. When this happens you are running on the power of the battery alone and this does not last long. As you state here the radio quit working and your lights probably got dimmer with time. As far as the other lights coming on, when some systems don't have enough power to run them the lights will come on indicating a problem. I wouldn't worry about them until you have your charging system checked. You can do this yourself if you have a volt meter. Start the vehicle and put the meter's red lead on the positive terminal of the battery and the black lead on the negative side. A properly charging alternator will be putting out 13.6 to 14.6 volts. A few tenths of a volt either way out of these specs is nothing to worry about. However, a variation really far from these specs indicates an alternator problem. Good luck with this.

I've noticed that the light on my radio has started to flicker slightly, I just replaced my battery, could this be the alternator? This happens only when the car is running.

It is usually nothing to worry about. It is not really the alternator itself but the voltage regulator. Most cars go for years after this starts before anything has to be replaced.

Battery/alternator light off and on

Hi there!

It will be the alternator if your battery is under 2 years old.

Batteries lose their capacity after a few years due to a process known as sulphation. White crystaline deposits form, preventing electron flow.

This can actually be reduced and eliminated thesedays by installing a desulphator, or using one in conjunction with a charger. I've recovered 3 batteries so far since I made one, two of which were scrap due to sulphation.

The battery companies don't want you to know about these - that's why batteries only have a 3 year guarantee on them.

If the alternator is faulty, it can be serviced for 1/3 of the price of new.

Hope this provides a solution for you. If so, please take a moment to rate as Fixya! Thanks.
