A door sensor either is worn out or its wires are groundig and starting the lights. At the base of a pillar on every door you will see a small contact - it's the interior lights one. Remove all of them and clean and test them and their wires.

Same thing happened to me. I agree with the lubrication solution...I sprayed some wd40 where the latch is as I did not want to take the door apart and it fixed the problem for me.

The door ajar light is on and won't go off even though all doors are closed also keeping the interior lights on. Is it the sensor and what can I do to fix it without taking it in?

Hello Jessielucas.

In each door latch (not the handles) there is a switch that activates the lights.
You can try to free the sticking switches by spraying a light oil in through the latch openings.
After spraying open and close the doors to try to loosen the sticking switch.
If it fails to free up you may need to remove the inner door panel to get to the inside of the latches.

Door ajar light is always on when all doors are closed. Just had frozen latch fixed and sprayed to avoid it freezing again.

in most cases its the door light button causing this. just spray the door light switches, and work by hand for a bit. and this should help. unless 1 or more are bad!

Driver's door ajar warning will not turn off and as a result the interior lights will not turn off

The door switch is a common part to fail on ford models. It's built onto the door latch inside the door and is about $30 from the dealer. You could jump out the switch to verify that it is in fact the fault by removing the door panel, disconnecting the wiring and using a paper clip to jump the two terminals.

one of the door switches might be getting a bad connection. sometimes they can wear out after years of use. you can pull the swithes out and use an ohm meter to see which one is not working.

97 lincoln continental says door is ajar.

the door switches are part of the door latch, the easiest way to remedy this is to spray liberal amounts of WD40 into each latch and open and close the each door a few times, this should loosen up the latch and solve your problem.

Hope this helps.

97 Lincoln Contiental drivers door ajar message stays on what can i do? Can I remove the door jam sensors or door ajar warning relay? If I can where exactly are the located

It is a sticky sensor in the door latch mechanism. Spray it w/ WD-40 and follow up with a dose of silicone spray. Open/close doors several times and it should be ok. If you have a problem with 1 door the other 3 are sure to follow---DO THIS TO ALL 4 DOORS!!!!!!!!!
