Question about 2005 GMC Sierra

Oil pressure gauge goes to 80 psi when the truck key is turned on

When I turn the key to the on position, the oil pressure gauge goes to 80 psi. Where is the oil sending unit located on a 2005 GMC 2500 HD 4x4 w/6.0 L and 4L60E trans? or could it be the guage itself?

What is the outside temp where you live??? this will have an affect on the oil viscosity, there for raising the pressure when engine is cold. Just a thought.

Chances are your sending unit is not bad. These dashes have had alot of problems with stepper motors failing in the instrument cluster. does it go to zero when key is off? is it erratic? changes where it sits when running and when off? These are all problems within the cluster itself. It is not cheap to take this to the dealer. THey will want to replace the cluster. these clusters can be repaired for half the cost if you know where to go. Not sure yet what the rules are on here but i can repair these for about 325 verses over 600 from dealer and then reproggramming costs! One other note. Chevy has a recall on these! call you local dealer and ask what the criteria is for the recall. You may be able to get it repaired for free if you meet the time frame and mileage requirements.

Have oil pressure but gauge goes 80 to 40 to 0 doesnt tick at 0 turn off turn on gauge goes to 40 than to 0 no tickin

Possibly the gauge is off or bad. The only way to know your true oil pressure is to hook up a mechanical oil gauge to the fitting where your gauge sender is. Any mechanic's shop would have an oil gauge.

96 Chevy blazer how do I get out of safe mode ran low on oil now runs an drives but won't let car go fast past 2000rpms

The computing system on your vehicle has no safe mode for running low on oil . The only thing that will happen is the check gauges light will come on.
The oil pressure gauge is an analog device that is located in the IPC. The oil pressure gauge is operated directly by the oil pressure sensor circuit. As the engine oil pressure changes, the resistance of the sensor and the current flow in the oil pressure gauge changes. The current flow in the oil pressure gauge causes the needle to move in order to appropriately display the engine oil pressure. A sensor resistance of 1ohms will display as 0 kPa (0 PSI) and a resistance of 88 ohms will display as 80 kPa (80 PSI ). The IPC also monitors the oil pressure sensor circuit and interprets the current flow in this circuit in order to determine when the engine oil pressure is too low. If the oil pressure is too low, the check gauges tell tale will turn on. The oil pressure sender is located on the left side of the 2.2L. The 4.3L engine, oil pressure sender is located at the top left side, near the distributor/high voltage switch.
Try disconnecting the battery cables an hold them together for ten minutes , reset ECM !

My 2005 nissan titan oil pressure gauge just jumped to high. I turned the motor off and turned the key on without starting the motor and it went to normal. Soon as I starred the motor, it jumped right back...

When you say it was "normal" with the engine off and the key on, do you mean normal as 40-50 psi, or normal, as 0 psi since the engine was off and there should be no oil pressure? This is important because if you are reading 40-50 psi with the engine off, it is not surprising that the gauge goes "too high" once you start the engine. If the gauge is at 40-50 psi with the engine off and the key on, then there is a problem with the gauge or the sensor. It is not an overpressure issue. As long as the engine seems to be running normally otherwise and is not clacking internally or other such things that would indicate oil pressure issues, I would feel safe using the vehicle until I could have the oil pressure circuit diagnosed and repaired.

Oil pressure gauge pegs at 80 PSI as soon as you turn the key on. I have replaced the gauge and confirmed the sending unit is working properly. Any ideas on where to look next?

Sounds like a grounded wire. Most senders change resistance to the ground circuit of the gauge. If it pegs there is no resistance to ground and probably a shorted wire.

2005 silverado 4x4 oil pressure gauge goes all the way to the right to 80 and does't move only when key turn to off.

Either you have way to much oil in the truck or the pressure switch is no good.

Oil pressure gauge is reading 80 psi. I had the

The oil sending unit is located on the engine block behind the drivers cylinder head area. You have to climb up on the motor to see it cause it is hard to see behind the wiring harness. You may also want to purchase a new sending unit because it is very long and you might need to buy the sending unit socket to replace it.Hope this helps.Good luck.

While driving the oil pressure gauge sits between 60 and 65 psi but when i get on the gas it shoots up to 80 psi. When idling it sits on 40 psi.

When the engine is idling, the oil pressure is reduced. At fast idle (such as highway speed) it in increases. This is considered normal. If it goes higher than 80 or lower than 40...have it checked out.

Oil pressure gauge stays at top, about 80 psi, is this normal

80 is on the high side for those... possibly a sending unit issue

Oil pressure gauge reads 80 psi with engine off and pegs running

That is probably a defective oil pressure gauge or a broken oil pressure sender, it reads 80 psi just because that is the maximum value allowed.

Pressure can be verified by reading it with a gauge tool.
If you really have pressure over 70 psi when engine is running then start replacing the oil filter, and check that the oil lines from pump are not obstructed, if there is nothing in there then replace oil pump.

If instead the gauge reads 80 with engine off, that is a defective pressure gauge.
