I have a 1997 buick skylark and my low coolant light is on so i bought a gallon of the local advance autos 50 50 and filled the resevor let the car run 5 min with cap off level stayed the same am i doing...

Are you sure the coolant is still low in the bottle. The coolant sensor thats in the bottle has a float that can stick. If it sticks the low coolant light will stay on even if the coolant level is right. Try tapping on the coolant reservoir bottle in the area where the electrical wire enters it. Not too hard. If that is the porblem the light should reset.

Engine light stays on a 97 olds achieva sl

Engine light stays on, low coolant light stays on , recently had a plastic housing replaced that was leaking, it was linked to thermostat, tranmission coolant, heater ect. Had the thermostat replaced also. Level of coolant is fine, does't overheat anymore, but now the starter wants to spin a couple of times and then it starts. The car has no rust, would like to hang on to it

Coolant dash light stays on

No the light on your dash comes on when the coolant sensor is activated.

I would look at replacing the coolant temp sensor or somthing similar.

Low Coolant light stays on

Check you coolant resevoir. The low coolant switch is located in the resevoir so if it is low on coolant there, the light will come on. If it is full, it could be that the switch is stuck due to gunk build up in the resevoir. Hope this helps you out

01 mercury sable traction control & low coolant lights stay on.

check for something stuck in the wheels and as for the coolant light get the car running and up to warm temp and start adding coolant to the reserviour bottle until it is up to hot level because there maybe a bubble in the line but also if might be a bad switch in the reservior bottle itself

Light is on

low coolant warning light when car is cool take cape of coolant reservoir fill up to max line with 50 50 mix of coolant and water and if light still stays on then it is a faulty low coolant switch and to get the light out you will have to replace that switch
