I get a loud banging every few seconds from front end when 4wd is engaged. What could be causing this?

Sounds like the Universal Joint is about to let go! If you can feel play, it is likely to be far worse under load and physically moves.

I don't think you will know whats going on until someone takes the transfer case apart. It could be the shifter stuck in mid position and it is not completely in either position.

That Thud is the Trasnfer Case for the 4X4. When Gears Break off inside this Transfer Case the Gears are So tightly Fit inside that the Pieces have nowhere to go but into the Other Gears Causing the Thud that you here. This is Causing Further Damage everytime you Here it. I would get the Transfer Case ReBuilt if you need the 4X4 at any time. Please Rate my Response, I need all the Help That I can Get! Thanks!
