I have a Ford Escort 1992 RS2000 Mk 5, does anyone know how the fuel pump works please ?

Fuel pump runs for 2 seconds when key is turned on when the engine starts it continues to keep pressure at 30 PSI while engine is running, If you are going up hill the fuel regulator will kick in increasing fuel rail pressure to 60 PSI If the Fuel Pump does not detect the engine running by th cam shaft or crank shaft sensor the pump will not run. There is a fuel sock on the pump and a fuel filter as well. If it's not running most likely the Fuel Pump Is bad, The ethanol in the fuel eats the old pumps up and destroys the filter. So if you have not replaced the filter or the fuel sock then it's time to do so now. If you want more information let me know and I will give you more.

cut off switch could still be bad. First my sure gas is getting to the engine....if so then this indicates that fuel system is working properly. Sounds like car may not be firering. I have a ford escort rs turbo s2 1988 mk 4 it starts then it stops it starts because of the cold start valve im sure there is somthink wrong with the fuel metering unit as it is not pumping any fuel in to...

The crankshaft position sensor gives a report on engine rpm and this is how the fuel pressure is set for a given rpm. The cold start sequence could temporarily enrichen the fuel and adjust rpm then hand off duties to position sensors. Also cam timing sensor needs to work to maintain fuel flow.

HEAD GASKET HAS GONE, NEED TO SEE A DIAGRAM BEFORE I REMOVE AND FIT NEW ONE ON MY FORD ESCORT RS 2000 MK 5.

you should not need a diagram. most gasket kits have the correct torque and order of torque for your fitting procedures. if unsure, put everything of in a line, then reverse to put it on . cheers goodluck

Car won't shut off

check the ignition switch for a short,get back to me if you need more help,please rate my fix as i strive to be the best. also check the rod that connects the key switch to the ignition swtich, could be stuck or out of adjustment, just another thought Thanks Ray
