The transmission in question is called, "4L60E" There are two versions. The 4L60E ran from 1992-1997. Then the 4L60E was updated and ran that version from (1996-2010). In 2002 GM introduced the 4L65E. So YES you should not have a problem fitting a 1998 chevy 1500 with a 4L60E into a 2001 Chevy 1500 with a 4L60E. You didn't mention that both were 2wd or 4wd. You can not convert a 2wd into a 4wd. I hope that helps, good luck.

My first guess would be a solenoid not staying engaged.
But it could be a pump or valve body issue.
Is the check engine light on ? If so you could have trouble codes to point you in the right direction to look.
You have checked to see if it is full of fluid, right ?

it may be a bad tps ( throttle position sensor ). it causes transmission shift issues, bucking,jerking, idle surging, engine cut off, surge while crusing down highway. if this does not solve problem, it may be a sticking valve body in transmission. have a good day !! for an automatic tranny.

Run a code reader. Sensor problem I bet

2-3 shift solenoid defective.Their replaceable with the transmission in the vehicle,but you'll have to remove the transmission pan!

transmission gone bad or low fluid if leaking,you still need to know what the code means ,does the check engine light is on,but doesn't seem to be the engine.

is your tow/haul button pushed? is the tow/haul light burned out? i would ask myself these questions

to 94 chevy have you checked fuel pump? car must be turned off . With key in off position turn key to acc position, radio must be turned off. when key is in acc position you should hear small hum for about 15 to20 sec then it shuts off .This means fuel pump is working. This should happen every time you turn the key switch. If you have pump noise, I would look under the distributor there are two sets of wires that is your spark modulator . remove distributor cap 2 screws on driver side removes it take it to autozona/ checker auto and they will check it

I would take it back to the person that rebuilt it and make them fix it again or get your money back if you can
