How do you change spark plugs in a 2004 hyundia sonata

It depends on which engine is in the vehicle. The 2004 Sonata came with two possible powertrains -- the 2.4 Lit L4, and the 2.7 Lit V6.

On the 4 cylinder engine, there are two coil packs and two ignition wires, Below each coil pack is a spark plug (#2 and #4 cylinders). The wire from # 2 coil pack goes to #3 spark plug, and the wire from #4 coil pack goes to #1 spark plug.

Now the 2.7 Lit V6 requires you remove the surge tank (intake manifold) in order to access the spark plugs & wires on Bank 1 (Right Hand side of the engine).

PDF 2001 Hyundai Sonata spark plug change instructions

I posted this solution for this same engine on the 2001 Kia Optima. It is Exactly the same 2.5 V6, and the instructions are exactly the same. I recommend replacing the plug wires. Please see 2001 kia Optima for the rest. Good luck, it's fairly easy.

Spark plug location in a 2001 ford escape

Need to remove upper intake manifold to reach valve cover close to firewall.
1) The location of spark plugs 456 are under the plastic shield in front of the engine. It takes an 8mm socket to remove the three bolts holding the shield once the shield is removed you will see a coil for each spark plug. Use the 8mm socket and remove the coil and rubber boots. You will now see the spark plug (note there are not any spark plug wires).
2) The location of spark plugs 123 are located to the rear of the eng. You have to remove the air intake manifold in order to get to the spark plus. Remove the throttle wire then remove the other items on top of the intake manifold.

I keep getting a notice that the #2 and #4 cyclinder is misfiring. I went to change the plugs, but could not locate them from the top of the engine. Where are the plugs located at?

Remove the EGR valve mounts so you can slide the manifold out. Disconnet all vacuum lines from manifold and the air filter inlet closet to manifold. Just take a general look and ensure you have all wiring and tubing disconnected then slide the manifold off the eng and EGR valve. NOW MAKE SURE you cover all intake holes (leading into the engine) with paper towels to prevent droping screws etc into the engine. Then follow step 1 above

Change sparks plugs on 06 hyundai sonata v6

You didn't specify whether you have the (4) cylinder or the (6) cylinder engine..... I have a 2004 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L 4 cylinder and I just changed the spark plugs in it. I believe that the 2005 2.4L engine is the same. To locate and change the (4) spark plugs on a 2004 Hyundai 2.4L 4 cylinder engine: Remove the (4) 12mm bolts from the decorative plastic engine cover. Remove plastic cover from engine and place it off to the side out of your way. Standing in front of the car, the (4) spark plugs are located laterally (left to right) in the recessed area underneath where the plastic engine cover was removed. Note: This engine has (2) coils....They are located above spark plugs number (2) and (3) from left to right. Starting with the fist spark plug on the left: Remove the spark plug cable by pulling straight up on the insulated connector. Using a spark plug socket, remove the old spark plug and install a new one in it's place. To access the second spark plug from the left, remove the electrical connector and the spark plug cable wire from coil number (1) and then remove the (2) 12mm bolts that secure the coil to the engine. Spark plug number (2) is located directly under the coil. Lift the coil straight up removing the insulated connector from spark plug number (2). Using a spark plug socket, remove old spark and install a new one in it's place. Repeat same procedures for spark plugs number (3) and (4). Note: If you have the (6) cylinder engine, the front (3) sparks pluge are readilly accessible but in order to access the (3) rear spark plugs, you will have to remove the intake manifold

2004 Hyundai Sonata 6 cyl

Depends on how MECHANICALLY INCLINED you are. Have you done any repair work on vehicle engines before? It's not that difficult to do if you know how to turn a wrench/ratchet and THINK about what you are doing and what you are dealing with... .attention to details. Ya think? On the 04 2.7 lit V6 Sonata, there are two nuts and 5 bolts (two long and three short) which hold the plenum to the RISER manifold. There are an additional 3 to 4 bolts at the rear (firewall side) which support the plenum (they're all 12mm bolts). You'll need to remove the intake air hose to lift the plenum out of the way to access the 3 plugs on the RH side (rear) of the engine. You'll want to replace the plenum gasket when you do this. When you reinstall the plenum, the tightening torque is 11-14 lb.ft. Do not tighten the REAR support bolts until after you torque the surge tank bolts to the intake (riser) manifold.

Need detailed how-to--but only for replacing rear 3 plugs on V6 hyundai sonata 2001. There are lots things connected to intake manifold, which cannot be lifted high enough to prop it high enough to place...

I just did this today. This is how I did it and by no means I am a professional. You will find two 12 mm black bolts along with 3 12 mm zinc bolts on top of manifold these need to be taken out. Next on the left hand backside you will see a ground wire that needs disconnect. Right by this connection you will see another 12mm black bolt on the back side this bolts need taken out. there are two more of these bolts going across the back that holds a wire harness as well as the intake manifold. Next, I took of the flex pipe from air filter and disconnected the wire harness (gray and black) I believe go the air flow meter. this will help you get to the left side back bolt. the middle back bolt is right under the trottle cable brackets. I moved my cables being carefully not to move the 12 mm nuts to much. Next I took the bracket off which gave me room to get to the bolt. The manifold should be free to move now. be carefull and gentle when moving to look for any connection that might impede moving the manifold to the right side(brake fluid tank side) this will give you enough room to change all three plugs. Took me a couple of hours to do.
