MY 93 IMPREZAWILL NOT START IT HAS A STARGARD KILLSWITCH AND I THINK THAT SHORTED OUT THE IGNITION WHEN I PUT THE KEY IN THE PANEL LIGHTS COME LIKE THAY SHOULD AND THE FUEL PUMP STARTS BUT WHEN I TURN THE KEY TO THE START POSITION NOTHING HAPPENS I GOT A NEW INGITION SWITCH AND HOPE THAT FIXS IT

ah a simple failure, not dead engine complex.
this has only 6 causes, of no crank. using voltmeter makes the job near childs play. if you do that, guessing will be $$$$$$$
A/T trans or M/T auto or stick , not the same.
you shorted out wires under the dash with that key act.
that blows fuse if lucky or blows up very very expensive electronics. nobody here knows what you blew out.
only using meter finds this. a voltmeter (DMM)
all one word left off, I broke off the metal key inside the ignition switch so then hot wired the switch
bingo now I under stand what you did.
a new ignition switch is best.

let me see what fuse you blew up.
if you short out the key switch or starter relay
yes the fuse link blows. for sure.
fuse 19 is the starter fuse, not blown.
volt meter check IGN switch has power white wire is power in,if dead, link is blown
turn to ST start, and ST pin goes to 12vdc
as does starter out relay pin B/Y to starter

Hi,if you got a switch that just switches on and off and take the live wire from the ignition and cut and put the switch on,then if some one trys to start the car there will be know power.
or there is one that you can put in between the battery on the live cable.hope this was some help.

If the car shuts down after the service engine lights on, possible problem is the igniter on your ignition coil. You have to replace the igniter. I had the same problem before with my esi 93 and honda car shop fixed it by replacing the said part. It is better to have the code scanned first. If it gives you 1 long flash followed by 5 short flashes, definitely it is the igniter.

Maybe the ignition is bad- or your starter solenoid stuck in engaged position?

Yes this may help try a new ignition switch .i had a 93 and it done the same thing to me .hope this help you ....

this problem is cauased by a defective ignition key sensor, u can't replace this witrhout a GM scanner to reprogram the system to the new lock.

there may most likely be a short somewhere easy and cheap way put a battery kill off switch

Put the trans in nuetral and see if it starts normal with key. If not, then the ignition swith is suspect. The actual switch is mounted on top of the steering column on the lower end. It is actuated by a rod. the key has no electrical. or your trans linkage needs adjusting. Good luck, Ned-

check to see if u have a killswitch usuall under the dashboad by the steering wheel have a 93 camry and my battery died and i had the same exact problem of it not starting just find the killswitch and flip it then u should be good to go.

is this a double sided key? one key work the door & ignition?
