Possible broken sway bar link. They are an easy repair and inexpensive to buy.Find the sway bar and follow it to the control arm on the side that's making the noise. They can be pretty rusty but are easy to remove and replace.

This is usually caused by a worn or broken strut, Does the steering wheel want to pull when this is happening, if so then I would check the strut on the side of the pull..

Hi, sounds to me like you have a bad shock. You can check it by standing in front of the auto and pushing down on the side that you are hearing the noise. If it bounces real easy the shock is worn out. Sounds as though it is bottoming out when you hit a bump. Check it out and keep me posted.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7

Have the front end inspected but if you have never changed your struts, this could be likely.

SOURCE: sterring wheel

check how to immobilise the air bag in the wheel first --- at the back of the steering wheel spokes you will find screws that when undone allow the padded section to be removed revealing the nut that holds the steering wheel on.. Pull the horn fuse as it will blow every time you move something. Mark the position of the steering wheel and use a puller to get the wheel of the shaft .

I heard something snap and then noticed that the rear of the car drives very bumpy

Can you provide more info? Did you hit a bump? What do you mean by 'drives bumpy?' Does it ride rough, or does it go up and down a lot after you hit a bump, or something else? Can you further describe the snap you heard, and what was going on when you heard it and immediately afterward (e.g., driving 40 mph on a paved road, hit a pot hole, heard a loud 'breaking' sound as if something snapped/broke, and the ride of the car seemed to immediately change to being more harsh/rough)? Have you had any work done recently, such as tires changed or rotated, struts replaced, wheel alignment, or brakes replaced? Did anything else change (e.g., now when you hit a bump, you hear a new noise in the rear)? Were you carrying anything heavy in the trunk or back seat? I had a '99 Corolla for several years, and had zero problems other than a worn out driver's door handle and a couple of cracked windshields. Great car choice!

What would be causing a noise in the front end that sounds like someone hitting can when braking & going over bumps?

Sounds like the wheel is touching something when the nose goes down a bit. I had a similar problem and found it was the stone guard under the front fender

I own a 03 Jaguar X type 2,5L with 17" wheels. When I hit a bump a certain way I get a banging noise in the right front end. The suspension seems to be OK as far as I can tell. The car only has 24176...

it is possible that the shocky on that side is faulty so a replacement would fix it if that is the fault
rather than being a "frozen "unit
it is more likely a broken unit that is allowing the suspension to bottom out on the bump
Take it to an accredited front suspension shop and have them do a front end check

1999 alero the front end makes noise like the wheel bearing or

if its clicking when you turn the wheal, then its a cv joint. If its making a bump bump bump noise as you go down the road and increases with speed and slows with speed then its probably a bering, It sounds like you have hit something and caused your ball joints to damage. take a board 2x4 about 2 foot long. jack up the car in the front, just enough to fit the board under the tires. At each tire lift the board and see if you have any movement in the wheal. The movement you are looking for will be up and down, not side to side. Your steering moves side to side. Your ball joints give you limited up and down rotation movement to allow your car to handle bumps. If its in access of an inch rotation then there is your problem. Depending on the car, I would probably look at salvage yards first then go to the part store and compare prices. Because some junk yards are chaging near new prices for used stuff. Also your struts may be shot also.

I hit a bump on the right front side and it makes a roaring type noise and shimmies a bit .. can feel it under my left foot. also at times it will make that soud when i make a right hand turn... it is ...

Sounds like your left front wheel bearing is going bad. When you make a right turn, or compress the right front suspension over a bump, it forces the car to roll to the left. This loads the suspension on the left side, which will exaggerate a wheel bearing problem. Are you hearing the noise at all when travelling on the highway in a straight line? If so, it'd be either a grinding sound or a hollow humming noise. If you aren't, it may be that the bearing is just starting to go bad.

A quick test to see if the bearing is bad is to jack the car up at that corner, grab the wheel at the top and bottom, and shake it hard - if there is any movement or looseness, your bearing is shot. If there is none, it doesn't mean the bearing is fine, but it could be that it's just starting to go bad (which would be why you only hear it in turns and bumps, but not straight-line yet).
