2000 Ford Taurus cutting in and out press accelerater down and it loses rpm having problems with it for 2months first going up hills now it wont go faster than 25mph need help gf stuck 200miles from home thanks!

what engine do you have?

Does it come out of overdrive or down shift when the RPM drops ?

Check throttle body under hood. Make sure the throttle cable is not frayed or broken.

Replace fuel filter, spark plugs and definately plug wires. You should also make sure intake filter is clean and clear.

CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE AND CHECK HOW MANY MILES U HAVE

it sounds like you may have inadequate fuel pressure or restricted catalyc converter.

Well this could be in your timing. As cars get some miles on them the timing chain stretches therefore causing you car to lose alot of power.So you may want to have your timing set on this car. Also I had a taurus that had a bad torque converter, and it lost alot of power on hills and under loads, also when i gunned the gas pedal. so try the timing first. Hopefully you dont have a bad head gasket or a cracked head these symptoms you are describing are all signs of head gaskets or blown heads

have the catalytic converter checked

hi all,it sounds like ye have a speed sensor fault.they do give problems.replace the sensor in the gearbox,should sort it.
