More info? Stick or auto? 2X or 4X? On a hill or no?
Auto could be linkage jammed from no parking brake on hill, or interlock solenoid not working (console).
does it only not go forward or reverse or is everything out? i'm guessing you mean that it doesn't go forward which is common on rangers with autos. the clutches tend to go out and eventually leave you with only reverse then nothing. hope this is of help to ya
If your sure it is acually going into gear than check the auto hubs, they go bad alot. also you can with help from a 2nd person jack the truck up all 4wheels put the truck in 4x4 and drive and see if both drive shafts spin if they do its the hubs if the front one doesnt, its the transfer case
Remove heat shield covering on passenger side of transmission. Pry heat shield from oil pan and then carefully slide it forward to expose vacuum diaphram. There's your vacuum hose!
You can find this and much, much more info in the Haynes Ford Ranger 1993 thru 1997 manual for around $20 at most auto parts stores.
