1999 Kia Sportage, low compression. It ran ruff so I pulled the head and found that it needed a valve job. It was reworked and put back together and now there is very little compression. It ran better before taking it apart. It acts like the timing is off but the marks are right on. Any sugestions would be apreciated as to what I might have done wrong and what I need to do to get it running right. Thank you.
Please do note that it ran better before valve job. Before valve job, you could see light where as after you could not. That tells me that compressiion would be better now then it was before but yet it is worse. Please do note that it ran better before valve job. Karmen, ...What are you calling a "burnt valve"?.. what characteristics are manifesting themselves to make you (or your mechanic) think its a burnt valve?....
Have you ran a compression test on this machine??
....Remove the head and have a Qualified Professional rework the head..this is not a job for a shade tree .. or your buddy that "thinks he a mechanic"....
reply back to me on here..
.. please mark as helpful.. thanks
cud be many reasons--the mechanical timing and valve ajustment may be off--spark plug are wrong or not gapped right--injectors may hav issue--head not torqued right causing compression loss--mite need to put vehicle on a analyser to pinpoint
It sounds like a head gasket issue. Do a compression check to see if all cylinders are within specs. If you find there is an issue, decide if it is worth the repair cost. If you choose to repair it you will also want to check for an exhaust leak close to the engine such as flex pipe and also back pressure from a plugged converter. Otherwise you could end up blowing the head gasket again.
depends what is causing it..... the low pressure could be head gasket is cracked damaged by that cylinder... crack in head etc.... more then likely something small not the whole engine.... could be piston, head, head gasket etc.... i wouldnt think it would be the whole engine needs to be replaced... hope this helps cheers
2.0 is a non clearance motor. When the timing belt slips the piston comes up and hits the valves and bends them. Unfortunately due to the belt teeth stripped out and the crankshaft continuing to turn when the cam did not turn left the valves open and the piston bent the valves. You will have to remove the cylinder head and check the cylinder head if it needs surfaced and do a valve job on the head and replace any valves that are bent. Make sure the piston is not damaged (hole punched in it from the valve)
yes..you will have a broke valve...so you are looking at a head job....if you wanna make sure..replace the timing belt and check for compression...if there are no or low compression than you need a head job...but if you have a good compression that you lucky...all you have to do is start it up...good luck
WOW - DID THE BELT BREAK WHILE IT WAS RUNNING IF SO THE VALVES ARE BEND THATS WHY YOU HAVE NO COMPRESSION.
IF YOU HAD THE BELT REPLACED AND THEY DON'T HAVE THE TIMING MARKS RIGHT YOU CAN STILL BEND THE VALVES.
9 TIMES OUT OF 10 THE DAMAGE IS JUST TO THE VALVES AND NOT THE HEAD OR ENGINE. BUT IF YOU HAVE TO PULL THE HEAD MY ADVISE IS TO HAVE THE HEAD CHECKED FOR CNY CRACKS
