Outside the car. the reason i noticed it was because there was smoke coming out from under the hood at a light so i pulled over and checked it. thought my radiator had a leak. Like i said before only on the driver side of the car is there any leak, it looks to becoming from the right side, back part of the engine if your standing in front of the car. Looks to be coming from the transmission fill cap area in that general area, and you can smell the coolant stronglyOutside the car. the reason i noticed it was because there was smoke coming out from under the hood at a light so i pulled over and checked it. thought my radiator had a leak. the pump is located on front of the motor.if you stand facing the motor looking towards the pulleys(from passenger side to drivers side)in the center of the motor it has the pulley that is in the middle of the engine this is were the water pump is.
If you are to change the engine coolant first be sure that the engine is cool. Remove the radiator cap and unscrew the drain plug of the radiator "pet-****" located either on the bottom or low side of the radiator, Once the radiator is empty, fill again with water and run the engine. Repeat this process if necessary. Wait till it cools and drain again. Ad the coolant as per manufacturer's guidelines and complete with water. This should clean your engine coolant as well as your reservoir.
My brother had the same problem with his pontic grand am, only it was the front windshield but all he had to do is get the proper weatherstripping and put it in. It solved the problem of rain leaking into the front pass. floorboard. I dont know if that will solve your problem but its worth a shot right???? Goodluck
You are likely leaking coolant from a heater line or hose, check the hose that comes from the water pump{smaller of the two] and see if it has a leak in it or if there is just a loose hose clamp. If you can't find a leak in the hoses or any steel tubes then you need to take it to a radiater shop and have it pressure tested to see if you have a leak in the intake manifold gasket or maybe even the head gasket, good luck.
