Started engine and heard a loud whining noise. Immediately turn off engine but whining sound continued for a couple of minutes. After sound stopped tried again this time it started fine without the sound, any ideas what the whining sound could be? 84 f250 6.9l diesel
Re: Started engine and heard a loud whining noise....
It could be the soound of a raditor fan motor or drive belts, if drive belt is noisy then you have just adj the tension of belt and if it is of radiator fan then check the relay of fan. thanks.

First thing to check are the transmission fluid lines, make sure they are not crushed or leaking. Also do a good visual inspection of the underside of the truck for any obvious damage.
it sounds like your starter soleniod was stuck on ,the sound you heard was the starter being driven by the flywheel.you may have two starter solenoids one on the starter which looks like a chevy and you may have one on the firewall or fender closest to the battery.you can use a test light to find out which solenoid is not working.you may have to remove the start and bench test the starter.
Check the idler and tensioner pullys for your serpentine belt. I suspect the whining noise heard earlier was due to the fact one was getting a bit stiff or rough turning. When you gave it that extra fuel, the sudden load may have finished it off. Sometimes they lock up, and sometimes they fall apart. Check those items first.
