2003 pontiac vibe p0420 code

I have a problem with the check engine light coming on and off due to a unknown problem. I took my car today to a dealership and they did not help me. They told me that I need to replace my catalytic converter. When asked if they check for back pressure on the cat, they replied no! I have had this problem before with another car and the o2 sensors got replaced and the problem was solved. The car has 97k and I'm not sure if I should just go ahead and replace the cat. I looked underneath the car and saw that the o2 sensors were easy to get at and I'm thinking about replacing them. What do you think I should do? The car runs normal for now and there is no loss of power. code P0420 club

Most catalytic converters last the lifetime of the vehicle my best bet would be to go the cheapest way first and check your egr valve and o2 sensors

Check engine light keeps coming on pontiac 2003 vibe

Have you gone any had it run for the codes? If so and everything has been fixed per what codes say and car is running well, make sure you drive the car continuously for at least 50 miles (highway is the easiest way to do it) to reset the computer to clear the light. If that doesnt work, get the codes run again.

2009 Pontiac Vibe 2.4 GT, PO137 code, engine light, traction control light

More diagnostics are needed for this code. Do not replace any parts until that is done, the causes of this code are varied.

Well, if a mechanic on-site can't find the problem, you probably need a technician trained on Pontiac or GM systems.
Automotive systems today are so complicated and diverse, I couldn't even hazard a guess, and I've worked on cars and trucks for over 30 years. Us shadetree mechanics have just about seen our waterloo. Sorry, Denise.
