I need a picture of the fuse box for a 96 Grand Marquis LS so I can change the fuse for my cigarette lighter. Can you help me?

My cigarette lighter no longer works and my son is going insane on long car trips without being able to charge his iPad. I read the manual and know which fuse to try and replace, but I cannot figure out how to open the box! Is there a secret to this? The manual does not even talk about opening it, only to open it and change the fuse. I have tried to find instructions online, but all I can find is information about which fuse, not how to open the box.

Sorry sir are you asking how to replace or hace you replaced and still does not work but anyways have you checked both underhood and dash fuses yet I always check those it doesnt take much for those fuses to go bad in a cigarette lighter plug in

On the 2002 GA the cigarette lighter is mini-fuse # 34. This is also referred to as the "accessory power outlets".It's a yellow twenty amp fuse located in the underhood fuse box. Open the box, find the fuse, remove it and replace it.In the fuse box under the hood, marked AUX PWR/CIGAR..... There are 3 fuse panels located on your vehicle. The first one is located in the right hand (passeneger side) kick panel (sorry I don't have a picture of its location). In that fuse panel in the number 32 position is the cigarette lighter fuse and should be a 20 amp fuse (picture of fuse layout I did have and is below). As far as the air conditioner, there is a couple of things you can check. In the front power distribution box located under the hood in the engine compartment (see picture below) in the number 1 position is a 10 amp fuse which handle the air condition clutch and other componants for the A/C (see picture of layout underneath location picture). Also in that same fuse panel in the relay 08 position is the relay for the clutch on the A/C compressor itself. The last fuse panel you have is located in the trunk of your car and is called the rear power distribution box (see picture of location of that below). Now i'm not sure but this may be what you are talking about when you say cigarette lighter but in the number 10 position in that box (yes another picture below that one for the layout) is the power point fuse for the console which should be a 20 amp fuse and also in that same panel in the number 12 position is a 20 amp fuse for the power point located in the ashtray. I mention those because they are the same shape as a cigarette lighter and wanted to be on the safe side just in case also the fact to let you know that there is a fuse panel back there. i hope this helps you and good luck.

Your thought that the end of something fell into the lighter fried something is likely true. I can't imagine that the wire could be fried and the fuse is still good. check to see if the fuse you checked was the right one. If it was and it is good, a wire on the back of the receptacle may have come lose. The end that fell into the receptacle, did it get hot or damaged? That could be a clue as to if the receptacle was shorted when the end fell into it or if not, then look for a lose connection.

sounds like the lighter itself is bad because the fuse for the lighter is the same as the fuse for the connecter in which the inspection machine plugs in to.

If you have the owners manual it will tell you what number is the cigarette lighter fuse

when you look at the fuse box inside your car you will see a cigarette with smoke emitting from it for the cigarette lighter and the power outlet will have a button like picture on it.

fuse number 16 in the interior fuse box, it is a 20 amp fuse.

it will be under the hood in a fuse block (box with fuses and relays in it) it should be labeled LIGHTER , from the picture i'm looking at it will be the corner fuse 20 amps .
