The key must be on and the headlight need to be on low beam for them to operate, your dash button for the fog lights should have a small light in the switch when you have all the above on,if there is no light in the switch, check your owners manual in the glove box,it will show you fuse box locations and what each fuse feeds

Fog lights not working on 2006 Nissan Maxima

The most likely cause is a 'short' in the wiring. Remove the light fitting and take a good look at the connections on the actual light fitting. Look for dirty or damaged parts. Check the wires and the connector blocks are clean, shiny and are not damaged. Then check the light fitting itself for damage. Check the seal where the light fitting fits against the bodywork. If moisture or water is getting past it can affect the lights.

There is no fuse blown but the fog and tail light don't work, can it be the light switch

If the front side lights are working, then the switch is fine and this is more likely a bulb, wiring harness or connection issue.

Anybody know why my fog lights on a mkV R32 won't

Well, First, you get the "dttech DIY auto repair person of the week award" for at least LOOKING in the Owner's Manual first! That is better than MOST Fixya users would do. Probably 90% of the Owner's Manuals in peoples glove boxes are still in the wrappers they came in from the factory!

The reason the Owner's Manual is no help in finding the fog lamp fuse is because the fog lamps do not have their own fuse. The power for the fog lamps is actually supplied by the Vehicle Electrical System Control Module (VESCM), which is located under the left side of the dash.

The fog lamp indicators in the instrument cluster are actually a completely different circuit than the fog lamps themselves. The Instrument Cluster Control Module (ICCM) turns these lamps on when the VESCM sends a message over the data communication line to tell the ICCM that it has turned the fog lamps on. So my guess is that there is no indicator on the dash because the VESCM is not commanding the fog lamps to turn on.

The possible reasons for this could be that the VESCM is not recognizing that you are WANTING the fog lamps on (due to a switch malfunction or a wiring problem between the switch and the VESCM) or the VESCM is malfunctioning, or the VESCM has detected a short circuit in the fog lamp circuits and is refusing to turn them on in an effort to protect the vehicle from burning to the ground.

So, in short, the BEST way to figure out why your fog lamps are not working is to scan your onboard computer network for possible fault codes and check the live input data from the light switch to see if the VESCM is recieving the message that you are trying to turn the fog lamps on, as well as see if the VESCM is commanding the fog lamps on (probably not, or the dash indicators would be on).

Welcome to the world of modern auto repair where the vehicle manufacturers go to GREAT LENGTHS to keep you from figuring out these thing for yourself an FORCE you back into their dealerships for repairs......A whole other subject that really eats my craw!

I just bought a 2009 dodge ram without fog lights i bought a bumper with fog light an switch them out but i need to know how to connect the lights to the factory switch inside what do i need to do

If your PU didn't come with factory installed fog lights then you will need to replace your headlight switch with a fog light enabled headlight switch.

Here is a link to the factory dealer-installed instructions.....

http://www.mopardodge.com/accessories/Instructions/82208102AC_IFU.pdf

You only need to get the components you don't already have. The headlight switch that is fog enabled will pull out for fog light operation, if yous doesn't you need to replace the switch and do some wiring as shown in the pdf file linked above.

Hope this helps!

1st time install of OEM fog lights into a 1999 Mercury Cougar?

Look under the dash near where the headlamp switch mounts and if yours is equipped you should see I think it is a blue 4 pin connector with the following wire colors OG,OG/WH,OG/GN,BK.
This is for the fog lamp relay. If yours has this connector then you will need to purchase a relay ford part number F6RZ-14N089-AA should list for about $10.

More specifically, with the light switch in the "on" position (not the "auto" position), pull the light switch out. First click is the front fogs, the second click is both the front and rear fogs.

Dodge dakota selector switch and relay switch

A selector switch is what you use to turn on or off a circuit such as the lights or wipers. A relay switch is used by a circuit that has a large current draw and a relay uses a small source of current to control a large usage of current. Most fog lights use a relay to control the fog lights. You turn the fog light switch on (that is a selector switch) and the current from that circuit then activates a relay switch to let the larger current draw that the fog lights use go to the fog lights and you have light. A relay also controls if the fog lights are on when the bright lights are on. (on most cars if you turn the bright headlights on the fog lights will go out until you go back to the regular lights)

Hope that helps.

Lights

FROM: Lusty Kid:

Your fog lights should not work with high beam... they should work with the low beams. they are connected wrong, which probably drew too much current through the light switch burning out the contact points for the parking lights in the switch

Start by Fixing the fog light connections to work with low beams. Appears to me this was not factory installed. Aftermarket kit maybe! Then see if your parking lights work. If parking lights don't work still and everything else works, replace the light switch $50 at the dealer. The switch works the fog lamps when you pull out the knob to turn on the fog lamps when the lights are turned on. When the fogs are on you will see a little amber light to let you know your fogs are on. When you switch to high beam the fog lamps go off. Again if its not working that way, then is wired wrong. Needless to say, there should be connectors in the harness of the lights for the fog lamps. Use those if possible with the kit that you can get at the dealer, or you can splice the connector with those blue splicing clips sold at the auto part store. Make sure ground is ground when splicing and water proof the connection sith silicone and tape.
