Child's door safety lock engaged (by hand in the door jam)..now having tried every way I know how I can't get it open.

Yes, I would make sure the child safety lock is not engaged.

The Child Protection Door Locks (Rear Doors) are located inside the rear edge of the door. Insert the tip of the ignition key or similar flat-bladed object into the lock and rotate approximately one-quarter turn to the LOCK or UNLOCK position (as indicated by the stamped icons). WARNING!
Avoid trapping anyone in a vehicle in a collision.
Remember that the rear doors can only be opened
from the outside when the Child Protection Door

A child safety lock switch hidden away on the trailing edge of the door can be engaged to prevent opening it, will be a little switch of sort itll move up or down. door will open from outside but not inside for child safety,

Open the door from the outside and on the edge of the door there should be a red button with a slot for the tip of the key near the lock, turn this and this will de-activate the child lock on this door. Do this to the other door and the child lock will also be de-activated, to engage the child lock do the reverse of the above.
This is only on the back doors ok.

Your post is somewhat confusing, BUT with child locks engaged, you can only open the door from the outside, when unlocked.

I think the child safety lock is engaged. Look in your owner manual how to disengage. It is near the latch on the edge of the door. Look for the yellow label.

I have the same car, same problem. I've still not been able to fix it, despite taking the inside panels off the rear doors, checking the rods were seated, applying WD-40 to the lock mechanisms, and manually working the mechanism. Child locks are not engaged, but I tried putting them on and off too. Just won't open.

If you want to keep the child-locks engaged, and doors unopenable from inside, you must set the lever by hand inside the rear door jam of each door. It should be marked, locked/unlocked or on/off. Are there other issues I am not addressing? I hope this was helpful.

to set the child locks,on the back doors there should be a peice that you click down,its right on the latch assembly,if you set that to child locks on the only way to open is from the outside,doesnt matter if the vehicle is moving or not
