Hi JT. The blower can be accessed from under the hood. The plastic grille trim piece must be removed. There is a panel held to the firewall with 4 screws that comes off. The wiring harness in that area needs moved out of the way and the plastic engine covers come out of the way. The blower motor has a plastic cover held in place with small springs clips. The clips are easy to drop so be careful. The blower motor wheels must be removed and installed in the car. It is not possible to install or remove the motor with the wheels on it. It sometimes also helps to put the wipers in the vertical position.
this engine is in a bad condition and the cylinder head will have to be remove and the lifter replaced. this engine overheated to far and when the cylinder head is off have the the head bolts threads replaced with hylicoils as this will pull out when installing the head.again
If this is an automatic then the gearbox sounds as though it has a fault, check fuses in glovebox i think theres two in there for the gearbox. if they are ok you need to have a diagnostic check im afraiid
