You need to check the transmission fluid level,check it while car is running and in park.

Check your fluid level.If it reads full and is pink(not brown) it is most likely the torque converter. from the info I have gathered, when the trans just stops,and all you have is park,no forward or reverse. the part that conects the torque converter to the transmission fails,causeing fluid pressure loss.This is common with this AX4N/4F50N transmission. replace with an aftermarket torque converter or this condition may reoccur .

That is what it sounds like. I would check the transmission fluid level. I f it is full, you probably need a transmission. If it is low or out of fluid, then you need to find the leak, repair it, and cross your fingers and hope there is no permanent damage to the transmission.

Not likely a blown transmission. More of a shifter cable issue. There is an adjustment nut on the ****** end. It could be loose or missing. If the nut is fine you have a broken cable.

Hate to say it, but your transmission is on the driver side. Most common places for transmission fluid to leak is the transmission drain pan. Another could be from a seal where you drive axles goes into the transmission. It depends if you have had word done on your vehicle recently. I would suggest you take it in to a shop. You shouldn't drive, if you're are low on transmission fluid.

Have you tried replacing the speed sensor? Also is your car a column shift or floor shifter? If it is a column shifter make sure to inspect your linkage between the shifter and the tranny.

2000 sable wont go into gear
No quick fix. If you are lucky, it is just the flexplate snapped loose from the torque converter. There is usually a door that you take off to access the 4 bolts that hold the flex plate to the converter. Remove that door to see if the bolts have sheared off.
