I'm not sure if that truck has rack and pinion steering, or a steering sector. In either case, it sounds like you have stuck valve and the hydraulic pressure is fighting you, instead of helping you. When ever you turn the steering wheel the valve is supposed to move and direct the hydraulic oil pressure to help you steer. The valve is built into the sector or the rack and pinion, you may have to replace the assembly. There are companies that recondition those items so you might want to shop around.

My power steering is low and my yukon is making a noise when i turn. i dont have any power steering fluid right now can i use atf instead until i can get some.

I would get power steering fluid and not substitute ATF... I'm sure there's a fuel station or convenience store nearby you can locate PS fluid from. Also when you top it up, with it running turn steering from stop to stop (side to side) not holding at stops for anything longer than a second or two to get air out of system, then retop.

Easy steering to left, difficult steering to right

he sounds right on that one..sounds like bad seal in the steering box or bad valve.--as far as replacing the power steering pump---i wouldnt do that unless its growling right now. the lines will be disconnected from the steering box, now is a great time to flush the power steering pump. but yes, i think he is on the right track with the steering box being bad

Check to see if the power steering pump is still turning. If you have a broken drive belt (serpentine belt or "fan" belt), and the pump doesn't turn, you have no power assist. If the pump is still turning, check the fluid level in the reservoir.
