The heat on my 2000 Ford Taurus is not that good. Takes forever to heat up, but still not that good. Turning the fan up on high makes it worse. Best lukewarm heat is turning my switch to halfway on fan. What can I do to get better heat.

These cars are infamous for coolant contamination cause restrictions in the heater core. i suggest performing a heater core flush followed by a complete cooling system flush. i have seen this dozens of times in these cars and this has been the fix nearly every time. good luck!

Quick fix:
Assuming everything else is in working order and your antifreeze is at the proper level and mix and you are not losing coolant you could put cardboard in front of half of your radiator during cold weather months to raise the temperature of the coolant thus resulting in warmer temperatures from your heater. Be sure to watch your temp gauge/light and do not cover your entire radiator as you do not want to cause overheating. Another option is to replace your thermostat with a higher temp one. Hope this helps you!

Heavy squeak when turning(like turning heavy rubber belt)Tribute

Your fan belt is slipping. As you turn the wheel you make a power demand on the power steering compressor. This compressor takes its power from the fan belt so as you steer the compressor shaft is harder to rotate and the belt slips as a result. The fan belt should be adjustable by loosening the alternator bolts and moving the alternator away form the engine and than re-tightening the bolts. Check that the fan belt is not worn, if there are obvious signs of wear or cracking then renewal would be the best step. Always make a sketch of the path of the belt around the respective engine pulleys before removing it.

Why does my 2000 ford taurus idle so high when i start it

this is normal, if the idle wasn't high (about 2,500 RPM) the engine wopuld stall out until it warms up to normal temperature. If it is above 3000 RPM for more than a few seconds you have a problem.

I am being told my second fan is not turning. Are there two fans on a 2000 Ford Taurus LX?

Yes there is, one is for the A/C and the other is for the engine, there both side by side. When the A/C is on, one of the fans will turn on and when the engine reaches 195 degrees, the ECM turn's on the second fan. Some cars both do come on at the same time but most will one at a time. Good luck and hope this helps, you can check the wire harness to the fan for damage of any kind and also run a hot wire direct from the battery to the fan one at a time so you know if the fan it self is bad or a fuse or relay for the fan is bad. Good luck and hope this helps, Be glad to answer any questions you may have

Runs rough/worse, backfire sputters, smell fuel

make sure all wires are secure on the plugs. Make sure that if you bought the plugs aftermarket, that they are the suggested equipment from the Ford (http://www.car-stuff.com/carparts/fordtaurus20002000motorcraftmisp432154315.html Make sure the plugs (gap) were not damaged during installation. Check the firing order is correct. (1,4,2,5,3,6)
