I have a 2005 Discovery 3 and so far I do not have a problem but I have been told the hand brake could get stuck. So I would like to know what I could do to fix it if I am miles from anywhere
Release handbrake and go backwards for 10 ft then it will release. This only happens when the pads are worn out as far as i know and the movement knife edge goes over its self .

salesman and shop mechanic blah bl;ah to sell a vehicle
try this simple test
when stopped apply the hand brake
start the engine and if it stays running , put your foot on the brake
if it stops but restarts when you take your foot of the brake to start it , the the problem is more than likely a failing brake booster
also to check for other problems take it to a service center or autozone and have the fault codes read
Are You referencing to your complete Brake System, or Your Hand Brake??? And please try to be a little more explicit in your description of your problem; as you are my Eyes&Ears.
if it stopped working make sure your brake lights aren't on. If they are you have a bad brake switch (located under the brake pedal). It's easy to replace. If the lights are not on check the vacuum hose isn't split coming off the intake area. easy fix as well.
are you in a place where you can put the car in reverse or drive and floor it and be prepared for the brake to snap and the car to jump? any questions you can email me at [email protected]
no problem ,its only a bit of noise so dont panic.its caused by either dust or **** in the rear drums underneath the rear brake disks. The rear brakes use disks on the rear but in the middle is brake shoes as its a combined disk and drum set up.Just need a good clean out and rub face of shoes with coarse sand paper.
If your brake lights don't work Its because you blew the fuse which Is located In the main fuse panel under steering wheel. Without break lights your rover will fire up nice but wont shift out of park until you replace the fuse. If your ABS Is acting up It Is also an easy fix. Disconnect the ABS from each wheel. You still got all wheel disc breaks that work great but no ABS. Your other option is thousands of $$. If your breaks are weak check your master cylinder and make sure you got enough fluid and that you are not loosing the fluid. If you notice you are leaking brake fluid because you have to keep filling it up but cannot find a leak anywhere. I bet I know where It is. Check your rear break lines and make sure one of them didn't get caught in your rear springs and pinched ever so slightly when you were doing dounuts In the snow.
Good luck,
Just had this same issue with my 57 plate Discovery SE - great guy from the AA took the small plate off that sits immediately to the rear of the hanbrake button in the central console - he then hooked a wire around the cable you see in there and gave it a mighty tug. The result is that my brake is now disengaged (rather than stuck-on as before) and LR will need to cure the source of the problem under warranty. Car is automatic so can use "park" until full repair.
