If you can check the voltage of the battery with a multimeter do so, should be around 13.5 volts, check again with car running, and the voltage maybe higher still, proving the alternator works . If the voltage is 12volts or less then your battery needs replacing. As your car runs after a jump start but fails again after it is stopped I would guess it is time to renew it.

If the battery is more than three years old I recommend that you just replace it. Otherwise, take it to any reputable shop and have them run a battery/charging system check.

The only way to test a battery is do whats called a "drop test" on it they hook up a tool that puts a very heavy load onto the battery and if it holds its volts for 30 seconds its a good one,,,kind of kill it or cure it! however if the battery go's flat on you can you still open your car? and the radio coad and alarm coad will be lost, so dont just unhook the battery with out powering the car with another battery first,,,use jump leads to do this,

3-or phantom drains. (if no crank just after stall then it not this) if drains while sleeping yes.

the tests are easy, a dirt cheap voltmeter
13.3v to 15v running is good charge system.
if 12v and falling not.

if the battery is bad, the charge system can shut down, so, the best practice is to try a know
good battery out of 2nd car, do you have battery to barrow, this is TOP CHOICE< not thinner wallet.

if the good battery fails then the charge system is failing (note I said system and not a part)

btww, same true 2.2l engine.
the regulator is in the PCM.

on key on, lamp test
the jump start it , it runs

My mitsubishi galant suddenly won't start

1. Check n clean battery cables with a battery brush. Look at both ends, if able.
2. Check battery acid level. Add if needed, get a jump.
3. All OK? Then get a battery load-test done free at a parts store.

18 degrees in September? Isn't that Celsius?

Battery is new, engine won't turn over.

The voltmeter should only go as high as 14-15 volts when the engine is running. I would check for a poor connection between the battery and starter.

Dashlights went out,gas and temp guage stop working, door locks stop working, cranks for about 2sec and stops running

Your description sounds like a dead battery. Can you jump start it? If yes and runs normal then most likely you have a dead battery. If you can start it, any chain autoparts store will check it for free.

Batterty dead. Check engine light/Antifreeze pouring

The main problem could be a well known cobalt ignition issue. check all fuses, wires, and connections if you've worked on cars before and call to see if you still have any warranty left. This should be handled by a chevy dealer or chevy trained mechanic...to isolate the issue fast and avoid repeat visits to get er done.
