While driving the speedometer stopped working and my check engine light canme on in a 2005 chevy tahoe

Sounds like the speed sensor stopped working. Check the connector for it (it's at the back of the transmission near the drive shaft), the connector pins might be corroded or dirty. Be sure to check all the associated wiring as well.

Probably the speed sensor on the transmission. It would cause both problems. You should also have a check engine light with a trouble code for the sensor.

The sensor is in the side of the transmission where the speedo cable once was.

I think you can take a cheap obd2 code reader to check what problems caused the engine light on.

sounds like it's a fuse issue even tho the radio works,, my vehicle has a radio fuse and a assessory fuse the controls the lighter and lights on the radio

Is the ck engine light on If so take to a auto parts store that will ck the car for codes and that will tell you if the speed sensor is working or not> If the speed sensor is not working the ck engine light will be on and the car will have stored that code.If there are no codes that it is most likely the cluster for the speedometer not working . Now the temperature guage not working is the needle spunaround backwards past the stop If so that replace the cluster .If not than it needs to be ckd for a bad tempature sensor.This should also set a code and turn the ck engine light.

If trans is still shifting its most likely a blown cluster fuse or bad cluster.If you have a check engine light & trans don't shift most likely blown trans fuse or trans vss (speedo) harness at right drive axle broken puple with white stripe wire or light green wire with black stripe

Sounds like the electronic switch or plunger is going out.

if its not a fuse check the speed sensor for the tach, and the oil pressure switch on the side of the engine block see if the lead came loose
