How hard is it to change the water pump belt on a 1997 cadillac sedan de ville?

Please remember to leave feedback and vote. Good Luck

REMOVAL
  1. Install a 1/2 inch drive extension into the belt drive tensioner (6).
  2. Push down on the extension to release tension.
  3. Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump (13
  4. Slowly return the tensioner to the original position.
  5. Remove the belt.
INSTALLATION

  1. Thread the drive belt through all the pulleys except for the power steering pump (1) and the drive belt tensioner (6).
  2. Insert a 1/2 inch drive extension into the drive belt tensioner.
  3. Push down on the tensioner and feed the belt around the tensioner wheel.
  4. With the tension applied, complete the belt routing. Make sure the belt is properly seated in all pulleys.
  5. Slowly return the tensioner back to its original position. This will apply tension to the drive belt.
  6. After installation, check the belt for proper seating on the pulleys, proper routing and alignment.
  7. Start the engine and check for proper belt and accessory operation.

I need a serpentine drive belt routing diagram for a 1999 chevy K2500 4x4 pickup with a 350 engine

Serpentine belts are easy to change. The key is knowing where the 1/2" square drive tensioner is and to remove tension to the belt at this point.

If you remove the belt, it's easy to put the new one on because the pulleys are designed with grooves for the groove side of the belt, and smooth pulleys for the smooth back of the belt to ride on the pulleys.

Just go over, under, over, under until the belt is threaded on, except for the last idler pulley which is smooth.

Use the 1/2" breaker bar to turn the pulley until one can slip the belt onto the last 'idler' pulley and you're done.

The serpentine belt replacement

Use the (B) 1/2 inch square hole in the drive belt tensioner pulley hub to rotate the (A) drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the (C) drive belt.106fae5.gif
The diagram should be on a sticker somwhere under the hood, on the side fender area, or near the front of the truck. Or before you remove the belt draw a sketch to remember the routing of the belt.

(a) While turning the belt tensioner counterclockwise, align the service hole for the belt tensioner and the belt tensioner fixing position, and
then insert a bar of [diameter]5 mm (0.197 in.) into the service hole to fix the belt tensioner in place.
HINT: The pulley bolt for the belt tensioner has a left-hand thread.
(b) Remove the V belt.

1. INSTALL FAN AND GENERATOR V BELT
(a) Set the V belt onto every part.
(b) While turning the belt tensioner counterclockwise, remove the pin.
NOTICE: Make sure that the V belt is properly set to each pulley.
(c) After installing the belt, check that it fits properly in the ribbed grooves.
HINT: Make sure to check by hand that the belt has not slipped out of the grooves on the bottom of the pulley.

Waterpump belt

you have a serpentine belt, which is one belt drives all, so the routing of this belt is very specific also it matters whether or not you have a/c. Locate your belt routing chart under the hood before beginning. There is a tensioner pulley mounted on a spring arm, the spring arm should have a square drive hole in it, either 3/8" or 1/2" drive size you will need a ratchet of the proper size to insert into this square hole. Using the ratchet move the tension arm (away from belt) to loosen the belt and remove, route and install the new belt and move tensioner the same way place the belt over it and release. Hope this helps, let me know

2.7L & 3.5L Engines same Tools & Procedure Rate Me Please 1/2 in. breaker bar & Special Tool 7198 for conventional V-belts and Poly-V belts
  1. REMOVAL
    AIR CONDITIONING BELT

NOTE: The A/C drive belt self tensioner is NOT a dynamic tensioner. After adjustment the tensioner bracket bolts are tightened. The torsion spring is no longer responsible for tensioning the A/C belt. The torsion spring is only used for initial belt tensioning.
    1. Remove generator/power steering belt to gain access to A/C belt. Refer to GENERATOR/POWER STEERING BELT for procedure.

    1. Loosen BUT DO NOT REMOVE tensioner locking bolt and pivot bolt (Fig. 2).
    2. Insert 1/2" drive breaker bar into square opening on belt tensioner. Rotate tensioner counterclockwise until belt can be removed from pulleys (Fig. 2).
    3. Slowly rotate tensioner clockwise to relieve spring load.
    CLEANING
Clean all foreign debris from belt pulley grooves. The belt pulleys must be free of oil, grease, and coolants before installing the drive belt.

    INSPECTION
Belt replacement under any or all of the following conditions is required:
    • Excessive wear
    • Frayed cords
    • Severe glazing
  • Poly-V Belt system may develop minor cracks across the ribbed side (due to reverse bending). These minor cracks are considered normal and acceptable. Parallel cracks are not (Fig. 3).

    NOTE:
Do not use any type of belt dressing or restorer on Poly-V Belts. INSTALLATION

    AIR CONDITIONING BELT - NEW

WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE A/C BELT TENSIONER LOCKING BOLT WITHOUT FIRST HOLDING THE TENSIONER WITH A 1/2" DRIVE BREAKER BAR, AS PERSONAL INJURY COULD RESULT.
NOTE: Verify that torsion spring position is in the new belt position before installing a NEW belt (Fig. 4). If torsion spring is not in the new belt position, follow steps 1-7 to change the tensioner spring from the USED belt position to the NEW belt position.
  1. Insert a 1/2" drive breaker bar into the square opening on the tensioner. Hold counterclockwise pressure on tensioner while removing the locking bolt (Fig. 2).
  2. Carefully release spring load of the torsion spring on the tensioner.
  3. Remove pivot bolt, tensioner, and spring from front timing cover.
  4. Insert spring arm into the NEW belt position on the tensioner (Fig. 4).
  5. Install torsion spring, tensioner, and pivot bolt.
  6. Install pivot bolt. Tighten only finger tight, at this time.
  7. Using a 1/2" drive breaker bar, apply counterclockwise pressure until locking bolt can be installed.
    1. Install the NEW belt by rotating the tensioner counterclockwise until the NEW belt can be installed on pulleys. See (Fig. 5) for belt routing.
    2. Release tensioner and remove breaker bar. Belt is automatically adjusted with the tensioner's torsion spring.
    3. Tighten tensioner locking bolt and pivot bolt to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) (Fig. 2).
    4. Install generator/power steering belt.
    AIR CONDITIONING BELT - USED

NOTE: A "used belt" is considered having more than 500 miles of service use. NOTE: Perform steps 1-7 to change the tensioner spring from the NEW belt position, to the USED belt position.
    1. Insert a 1/2" drive breaker bar into the square opening on tensioner. Hold counterclockwise pressure on tensioner, while removing tensioner locking bolt (Fig. 2).
    2. Carefully release the tension of spring on tensioner.
    3. Remove pivot bolt, tensioner, and spring from front cover.
    4. Insert spring into the USED belt position on tensioner bracket (Fig. 4).
    5. Install spring, tensioner bracket, and pivot bolt.
    6. Install pivot bolt. Tighten only finger tight, at this time.
    7. Using a 1/2" drive breaker bar, apply counterclockwise pressure until locking bolt can be installed.
    8. Install the USED belt by rotating tensioner counterclockwise until belt can be installed on pulleys. See (Fig. 5) for belt routing.
    9. Release tensioner and remove breaker bar. Belt is automatically adjusted with the tensioner's torsion spring.
    10. Tighten tensioner locking bolt and pivot bolt to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) (Fig. 2).
    11. Install generator/power steering belt.
