There is an ABS wheel speed sensor located in the rear differential.
If this fails it affects the ABS and may cause your speedometer to read erroneously at speeds under 25-30 mph. There is also a VSS located in automatic transmission housing. Manual trans vehicles don't have this. They use engine rpm to determine speed as there is supposedly no slippage in the manual drive train.
Erratic Speedometer action could be an internal transmission problem. Check the Instrument cluster, vehicle speed buffer and recheck the speed sensor, look at the drive gear inside.
i believe it has a vehicle speed sensor in the rear diff that is probably your problem as the sensor you replaced in the transmission was probably the output shaft speed sensor
The speed sensor that controls the speedometer is located in the top of the rear differential housing, this is your most likely problem and is very common with this vehicle. Being that it is a direct input to the ABS module it will cause those indicators to illuminate when the sensor fails.
hi , their is two different speed sensors on your vehicle one is the input speed sensor which is inside the transmission and the transmission will have to be removed to replace it the other one s the output speed sensor is located directly above the passenger side trans-axle shaft. your input sensor is the sensor which tells the transmission when to shift and the output speed sensor tells the speedometer what it should display and both those parts are fairly cheap they are around 15-25 dollars but just remember if your input speed sensor is bad it is gonna cost you a minimum of 1000 dollars to have a mechanic fix as the transmission needs to be removed hope this is what you needed
Seems to me its one of the speed sensors on the transmission. Their are two, an input speed sensor and an output speed sensor. Both are located at the front side of the trans. case above the solenoid pack, both look the same as each other and just screw into the case. If your getting a reading on the speedometer is the input sensor, if your not getting a reading on the speedometer its the output speed sensor (known as vehicle speed sensor).
the trouble codes are as follows code 12 problem with battery connection. direct battery input tp pcm disconnected within the last 50 ignition key-on cycles. code 15 a problem with the vehicle distance/speed signal. no distance/speed sensor signal detected during road load conditions. code 55 completion of fault code display on check engine light. this is an end of message code. the speed sensor is located on the transmission/transfer case extension housing. check plug connection to speed sensor for power using an volt meter. connect the positive side of volt meter to the orange wire terminal and the negative side of volt meter to the black/light blue terminal. the voltage should be approximately 8.0 volts and to check the voltage from the pcm connect the positive end of volt meter to the white/orange wire terminal and the negative side ti the black/light blue wire terminal. signal voltage should be 5.0 volts. if there is no signal voltage signal, have the pcm checked out. if you have both signals from the terminals then remove the vehicle speed sensor and check the speedometer pinion for worn or missing teeth.
It may be just the vehicle speed sensor. Does the speedometer work OK? The vehicle speed sensor tells the computer how to control the shifting and it also sends a signal to the speedometer. Is the trany full of fluid, is it fairly clean? It should be red. Most vehicles, you check the fluid with the engine idling, in park.
