check coolant level is it full... also is there air in system... also check thermostat if bad coolant wont flow right, will just flow thru bypass so heater wont work.

Does it do it hot or cold , after driving the truck for awhile or sitting overnight ? Heat can cause resistance problems , electrically speaking . Have you checked to see if there is spark or fuel pressure when it won't start ? If you narrow it down to one or the other it makes it easier for diagnosing . If the temp gauge is now more stable, the problem is in your heater system, not the engine cooling system.

LET YOUR CAR WARM UP FIRST!! or you risk the chance of over heating and casuing engine damage. start your car let it warm up for 5 to ten minutes and then try the heat. also when you start you should NEVER have heat on right away. the heat that you feel comes from the engine. and if the engine is cold and you are trying to heat it up it will put stress on the engine and over heat. ALL cars have to wait for their heat. that's why you see peoples car running in the morning with no one in it. so when they do get in it they have heat. heat will not work until the engine is warm.

the heater core partilly clog or almost cloged

sounds like there is a blockage in the hose where you installed the heater or your thermostat just went out

heater core may be going bad...things to check.. heater core, thermostat, anti-freeze/coolant, wires to the heater.
