About 6 months ago, I was driving and about to make a right turn. When I switched my right signal on, it began to click fast. It turns out that my front right-side signal light gave out. Now, every time I switch my right signal, the light on my dashboard blinks and clicks faster than normal. A month later, the back light, on the right side as well, gave out. Last month, I changed the light bulb from my back light but it never turned on. And now every now-and-then while I'm driving, my dashboard starts clicking as if I switched the signal light on. I have a hunch that a fuse burned out, but I don't even know where the fuse box is located on my car and I don't know how to check if they are out. 3 weeks ago CHP pulled me over and gave me a fix-it ticket. It would be great If someone can explain to me how to fix my car. I would save a ton of money and I won't have to rely on a volkswagen dealer to fix it. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. Should I inspect the fuse box in my car? If so, what do I need?

    Thank You

There is a flasher reley under the dash it needs replaced

Testimonial: "good information"

  • jamie Jan 02, 2010

all you need is a new flasher reley usualy

go to dealer and ask them for the location they will usualy show you it will only take them a minute usuallly

the flasher reley will cost from 5 - 15 bucks there are 2 and 3 wire and even 4 wire flasher releys in a hundi it is best to go to the dealer buy there part and then self install it with a little bit of info

if the service tech cant or wont show you wait for a mechanic to go out side and ask him to show you where it is also now that you bought a dealer part you know what it looksc like now and will probably find it prety easy under the dash

usually it's just plug and play

as in pull the old one out and puch the new one in

also remember to sheck your fuses just incase and since your down there any hoo

have a great day and good luck ( so easy even a caveman can do it )

You probably have a bad turn signal switch. The problem is that no one can just tell you how to diagnose and fix this issue. You need proper training in electrical diagnosis and you need to have a schematic that you can read and understand in order to pinpoint the problem. You might end up spending more money if you replace parts at random. You need a pro for this job.

Chevy malibu turn signals will flash really fast while driving but all bulbs are good

Replace the flasher relay. It is usually under the dash. Follow the clicking sound when the flasher is on. It just unplugs.

Signal lights, fuse box and signal light relay in 2001 Volkswagen

The bulbs on these cars can be delicate. Some get replaced every year or so-( headlights, tail and brake) and some I've never touched in 8 years (my front turn signals and marker lights)

The fast blinking occurance is normal when a turn signal bulb goes out.

The rear lights are common to blow, I keep spares in the glovebox.

Make sure you were given the correct bulb, check to see that it works and isn't defective. Also there is an empty spot in the rear bulb holder- make sure you didn't mistakenly pop a bulb in there cause' it won't work.

The front right signal light is in the right headlight housing. Open the hood and on the back of the housing there are two plastic caps. One is curved and one is rectangular- you want to take off the rectangular one.

Open the drivers door and on the side of the dash there's a cover. This is the main fuse block. Use a coin or carefully with a screwdriver pry it open. To check a fuse pull it out, noting exactly where it came from, and visually inspect it to see if it is blown.

Fuse # 2- turn signal system
Fuse #4- License plate lights
Fuse #7- back up lights
Fuse #13- brake lights
Fuse #22- parking and side marker lights, right
Fuse #23- parking and side marker lights, left

The turn signal flasher is integrated into the hazzard button in the center of the dash. If all else is good and you suspect the flasher is bad, which is a good possibility, call a VW dealer and have them run your VIN# to check for recalls. The hazzard switch for some cars around your year had a recall on em'.

Well it sounds like you have a short circuit somewhere. it apperars to be messing with the relay that you replaced. have you checked all the fuses in your fuse-box? how about all the bulbs on the exterior of the vehicle? try those things then post back.

Turn signals flashing rapidly

This fast flash is caused by a burnt out bulb in the front or rear.
