1992 Pontiac Bonneville. On acceleration up to 20 mph, the emergency brake light signal illuminates, beeping signal is heard as well. Verified emrg brake handle is retracted and brakes are off. When I tried to apply my emergency brakes, light illuminates but pedal does not stay down or enagage the brakes, keeps retracting back up. When light come on after acceleration, it only remains for 30 seconds then the light goes off only to reappear again on re-acceleration. Any assistance would be great.

Silver Top's advice hit the nail on the head. Brake fluid was severly low causing the brake light to come on upon acceleration. Was absolutely embarrassed about figuring out that on my own. It was actually almost 3/4 of bottle low and the culprit was the left and right rear brake cylinders ($13 a piece). No evidence of fluid at first from removing the brake drum but when I removed the rubber end boots on cylinders that's when the brake fluid was noted. Replaced cylinders and bled system now the Bonny is back on the road safe and sound. Thanks again Silver Top.

From the symptoms you describe this sounds like the light is coming on to warn that brake fluid level is lowie not to max level hence as you accellerate fluid moves in reservor so sensor lightlights warning ? also on same circuit as the park brake on ? if fluid is low ? then either there is fluid leak on system? but more likely the fluid has been displaced from reservoir over time as the brakes pads/shoes have worn down so fluid takes up wear didtance of cyl pistons ? hope you understand? may i suggest that considering cars age/miles that you check the brakes pads/shoes are within safe limits if in doubt ? replace as thin pads will overheat quicker on braking from speed and result in brake fade or total loss of braking ? not to mention damage to the more expensive rotors thro scouring?hope you heed advice given for your own safety/peace of mind and others best wishes

Hello... I would recommend checking for a frozen (stuck) rear brake, a mis-adjusted emergency brake light switch, a stuck or sticking parking brake cable or a mis-adjusted brake pedal rachet lock which is the locking mechanism that holds down the brake pedal. Remember it could be multiple problems.

Good Luck..

Mike

Flasher relay location Pontiac Bonneville 2004 removal and installation.

If the right side works it's not your flasher, Its your left side bulb, either front turn signal or rear tail light bulb.

Brake lights

Have you checked for a burned out fuse? Tail lights also (typically) have two filaments. One for parking lights and another for when the brake switch near/on the brake pedal is in the on position. This switch is another possible source of your lack of illumination. Reverse lights should/might be on a different bulb. If you have already verified that the bulbs and fuses are good, try changing/adjusting the physical switch at the brake pedal.

2001 Bonneville steering wheel shimmys very bad when you apply brakes at 50 mph.

99% of the time this condition is caused by out of round brake rotors. You will have to either have the rotors machined if they are thick enough or replace them. If you price them out you will find that machining the rotors will only save you maybe $10-20 each.

Will not go over 25mph

Could be a frozen brake pad/ emergency break. The other option is the antilock breaks or traction control is not allowing the tires to move faster then 25mph

1992 Pontiac Bonn

I had a 98 GMC Savana cargo van that did something like that. My speedo would go crazy and the car would want to stall giving it gas. Couldnt get up speed over 20-25 MPH. It ended up being a speed sensor. I'm no machanic but a shop had replaced it and she ran nice after that.
