Hi Steve:
You may have 2 separate problems so I'd try to approach it that way. RADIO - On this older truck, it may be that there is a separate in-line fuse for the radio. If you can see under the dash where the wires come from the radio, look for a red or black one that has an in-line fuse holder. Push the ends inwards and twist counterclockwise, then pull apart to get at the fuse. It is also possible that the "accessory" terminal of the ignition switch is no longer working. A continuity meter should help you resolve that.
DOME LIGHT - Pull the bulb and test to make sure it's working. Check for power at the bulb connection receptacle (socket). Dome lights typically are switched from the doors or by rotating the light switch. If the bulb is good, it should be a hide and seek game to find where the power is, and where it isn't. The shorter the distance between these points, the closer you are to the problem.
Patience, and a sense of humour. You'll get it.
try cleaning the fuse holder contacts as is a known problem for corrosion etc causing an earth to fuse , once cleaned spray with some thing like wd 40 , just a little, will help repel water
great post and first to do fuse checks, for phantom drains.
G16 or J18 engine????
very good work. did you look at car in 100% dark,. all doors open , hood and trunk? called dark current checks.
and you are correct ,most fuses have many loads. some are 20 or more. (now windows ,usually)
DOME (im logged in to alldata.com so can you.....
Dome is doom, LOL called fuse #8 by suzuki.
a RED feed wire..... then white....
TCM, interior lights,trunk light,Radio, keyless,Clock and ECM
a real FSM make this far more easy, especially old cars.
and DC amp clamp meter 100x more easy.
alldata.com has the full set if schematics.
there might be corrosion on the ends of the fuse holder check that or try tuner cleaner before inserting the fuse.could also be a short in the fuse holder.
Remove fuse labelled "dome" on engine compartment fuse box. unfortunately this also isolates the radio. I have found when re connecting battery alarm goes off. remove "dome" fuse and then replace it. all ok then.
the keyless entry does not have a fuse itself however the vehicle has a iod, or storage fuse, that will disable the keyless system but other accessories wont function, the dome light , clock, or radio, if those items work then the fuse is good. check the remote itself, the dealer can check the remote n/c, if the remote is ok than the relay can be bad or the alarm module, best advice, take it to the dealer, they will know whats wrong with it and it wont cost too much to diag .
u def have a short somewhere in the wiring system...if u have a local mechanic that u trust call them since ur car is no longer under warranty and see if they can solve the problem it would be cheaper if not u will hafta call the dealer and spend a little extra getting it fixed...
Check fuse 8 (10 amp fuse) in the under dash fuse panel. Make sure you have voltage to it on both sides of the fuse. This fuse feeds all of the items you listed.
