follow the top radiator hose to the engine....your thermostate is located at the end of hose...take that end of hose off and thermostate is screwed into engine unscrew and take out .

looked in the housing at the engine end of the upper hose??

The drivers side of the engine block behind the alternator. It is not necessary to remove the alternator to replace the thermostat. You will have to remove the ecm.

This should be the firing order;
2004 Northstar RWD/AWD 4.6L V8 (LH2) ... Firing Order: 1-2-7-3-4-5-6-8

on the drivers side of engine below the water pump drive belt the upper rad hose is attached to the housing that it is in

Hi s no i disagree the v8 is a good engine if you have replaced the thermostate and checked the electric fans work at temp you might have a head gasket gone  let me know   D

If it's not up top it's behind the lower hose. I know it's behind the lower on the 2.7 litre motors.
