I have a 1966 Falcon that has a C4 transmission issue no reverse

I have a 1966 Falcon that has a transmission issue. The car has a C4 in it and I just had it rebuilt again. I installed the trans and hooked everything up correctly. The car engaged forward and reverse. I then found a fluid leak and buttoned everything up. I topped it off with fluid while in park between full and add mark. Now it has no reverse. All forward gears work fine. I have engine braking in low gear and checked my rear servo and pulled the pan to make certain an anchor didn't fall off. I pulled the valve body and checked for proper check ball locations. It has two check balls, one in each side of VB. I reinstalled the VB and adjusted linkage. When I start the car in park the engine is under a load as if it is in park and drive. The car pulls forward in reverse and no neutral. The car shifts fine in all forward gears; but I have no neutral or reverse; and no proper park. Any suggestions...

Check the vacuum modulator on the drivers side

Make sure you have vacuum from the engine,
coming from the ported vacuum under carb

What does it mean that my 66 pony has a green dot trany?

the '65/'66 C4, was known as the "Green Dot" C4 & has a different shift pattern to the '67/later C4's.

So your C4 tranny is the green dot which is an UPGRADED option. A better tranny better gears and stronger parts and what not, there was also the white dot tranny that was the cheaper or less performance transmission. As far as i understand the white dot was available for better fuel consumption HAHAHA which no one really cared about in 66 anyways.

In '65/'66 it was something like this:
P - Park
R - Reverse
N - Nuetral
White Dot - Starts in 2nd, automatically shifts to 3rd
Green Dot - Starts in 1st, automatically shifts to 2nd and 3rd

Removing selector from c4 transmission

You have to drop the pan and inside is a bolt and roll pin that hold the selector rod in. You have to remove it and the rod will slide right out so you can replace the seal.

1966 Falcon with C4 Transmission I changed out fluid and filter

Generally, what causes C-4's and C-6's to be slugish going into gear, is the seals on the servo pistons are getting hard. The servo pistons are what apply pressure on the clutch packs, when the seals get hard the oil can blow past the piston and the clutch won't engage. It's worse when the the trany is cold and usualy gets better as the oil gets warm. You could try some transmission conditioner, the cheep stuff works as good as the high dollar stuff. Don't rev the engine to try to get it to go into gear, the clutch is trying to engage and you will burn the clutch up pack. If the clutches were replaced 3k miles ago why didn't they put seals in it at the same time?

I have a 1966 Ford Falcon with a C4 transmission. The trans was completely rebuilt and has a Cheetah man/auto valve body. Lately the trans has been shifting eradict under normal driving conditions to the...

I would begin by replacing the filter if its not new, 2 possibility of issue, faulty shifting module or defective transmission rebuilt. just because it has been rebuilt does not mean the individual work on it did a good job. the less cost effective way is to locate used modulator from ebay or junk yard, if that does not rectified the issue than more likely it will be the tranny. the bad part is that I dont know of a company offer a bench test for the tranny modulator.

Does my Mustang have a low gear?

the C4 automatic transmission is a 3 speed transmission, it shifts by hydraulic pressure controlled by a governor and actuators, I would check your linkage to see that it is hooked up correctly to allow movement through all range selections, disconnect the linkage at the trans and see how many detents you feel while moving the lever back and forth, make sure to chock your vehicle as moving the lever from Park may cause the car to move. Let me know what you find, hope this helps
