Tools/Parts needed: Nissan Pathfinder Knock Sensor ($25): from ... Dan I have a 1997 infinity qx4 and ...
Well, let me just say that you have to remove the intake manifold (the one with 6 metal pipes) to remove the knock sensor. It is not easy to remove the intake manifold on Nissans.
The knock sensor is the top middle most sensor usually screwed into a solid part of hte engine with wires going to it. You can use an open ended wrench to take it off, in most cases. It's not a hard replacement.
Engine Control Component Locations
Engine control component locations
it/they is located under the intake manifold (it must be removed to access them) there are two of them, one for each cylinder bank, sorry no diagrams available
Sit on side of engine block held on by one bolt goes right through it, the harness will have two wire's.Just unbolt, put bolt through new sensor and screw back on to block.
It's located deep in the valley! Under the "LOWER intake manifold". copy and paste this link in your browser, or try clicking on it. It may be helpful to you.
I didn't find this link until after I had already disassembled my truck. This is the hardest job that I've taken on thus far, hope I can put it all back together properly. I changed the gaskets on the valve covers since I had everything off. To answer your question: It's under your lower intake manifold, so it's a hard job!
The Crankshaft Position Sensor is located:
Under hood, driver side, front engine area, mounted rear of crankshaft pulley
The Knock Sensor is located:
Under hood, center, front engine area, below intake manifold, mounted on block
