It uses the same fluid as the master cylinder for the brake system.sounds like the clutch is not disengaging enough, may need bleeding or you may have a leaking slave cylinder for the clutch. or a weak master cylinder for the clutch, the fluid comes from the brake master cylinder so if thats full then clutch fluid is good.hope this helps.

Will not go in reverse

Check fluid level. Idle truck until it's warm and then check the level. If the level checks out good, then check the transmission filter, at the same time while under the vehicle without it running have someone shift gears and see if it is moving. If all that checks out your transmission or torque convertor has failed

Transmission is sliping when warmed up, in all gears. Goes into all gears fine when cold.

Check transmission fluid level Hot in D. Over full will cause frothing and loss of pressure in the system. Have a transmission pressure test done . It may need a band and clutch pack adjustment.

Cant get the truck to shift into its gears corretcly. i have to let off the gas to get it to go n2 gear,.. n e suggestions? o and its a 1970 not an 82!

I would warm the engine and transmission warm up (take it around the block a few times) then with the engine at idle and the transmission in neutral -i'm assuming it's an automatic- check the transmission fluid, if it shows that it is low then add until it shows safe or full, if it is already full then since it is a 70 model truck I would suggest changing the trans fluid and filter.

If this were my truck I would consider going to a parts store and picking up a Haynes or Chiltons manual for it, they both contain excellent information about checking fluid levels, changing fluid and filter, and on standard transmissions checking and adjusting the amount of play in the clutch as well as complete tear down and rebuild info on the engine and transmission, atleast for most vehicles.

hope this helps

1989? When was the last time the Transmission was drained and new Transmission Fluid (oil) put in?
This Fluid (oil) loses viscosity and get particles in it causing additional loss in viscosity. I would go to even having the transmission drained and FLUSHED (cleaned) and new Fluid (oil) put in. Recheck the operation.
Boyles and Charles Laws are applicable here: (P*V)/T. Heat causes the Fluid to Heat and Expand (in molecules) but because of the limited sealed volume (transmission case) this increases Pressure allowing the smoother shifting and placement into gears.
Change the Transmission Fluid (oil) and have the Transmission Flushed (cleaning the insides) and your problem should go away.

Get the clutch slave cylinder and master cylinder looked at.One of the 2 has failed. If the pedal goes to the floor or is very loose, this is very likely the cause. Not an expensive fix.Hope this helps

I have a 1989 jeep wrangler. yesterday, after the stick shift felt stiff to shift, the clutch felt suddenly loose. Today, the stick shift stopped moving completely while i was driving. Finally, I was able...

Sounds like you are having a clutch problem. The sudden looseness in the clutch pedal indicates a problem with either the hydralic system, (slave or master or line) leaking or clutch pressure plate going out. Check your clutch fluid resevoir first, if low look for a leak under the vehicle, have a friend push the clutch and get underneath to find leak.

you need to check the fuild in it and the shift arm to see if it is out of adjustment and make sure your parking brakes are working for safety give these website a try www.alldatadiy.com and www.autozone.com if all fails stop by your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your truck wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.

Hard to Get into Gear?

Either your clutch is not fully dis-engaging or the transmission synchros are worn. Check the clutch master cylinder for level and check system for any leaks if it is a bit low.
