Get under car locate starter assembly, has trwo wire's going to it, while down there with test light have some one turn key to start check voltage at small wire if test light lights up ignition switch ok, then check voltage at big wire that one come's from battery have them turn key to start, if you loose voltage there check battery treminals for good connection,if you still have voltage with key at start position with a hammer hit starter while they hold key at start if it start's replace starter,bad starter solenoid.
Soundss like a bad starter, use a test light on small wire going to starter, have somone hold key in the crank position if you get power to the small wire at starter then its a bad starter, hope this helps.
