Check the tension of your belt(s). You may have spilled some fluid on them too.

Sounds like the belt's a bit loose, will usually do it more under load, make sure all electric drains like stereo etc are off, if helps, tighten belt a little bit.

Naturally you would hear it while driving as the belt seems to be loose and slips when you rev up the engine. You may even hear it if you rev the engine in stationery running as well. The belt need adjustment. Ideally, it should be an inch and a half on the longest hanging portion of the belt. With the engine off if you press the belt in the middle of the longest portion, then the belt should not go down more than 1 and 1/2 inches.

Squealing noise on 01 ford ranger while accelerating

Hi, I'm glad to help!

First you need to remove the drive belt and spin the Alternator, A/C Clutch and Water Pump pulley's and see if you hear the squeal. Its possibly it may have to be under a load before you hear it but its worth a try. It's also possible it could have something to o with the Throttle Body or Intake Manifold. Hope this helps and have an awesome day.

Battery light and abs light on hard to steer overheating

sounds like you either lost your fan belt, or you have a seized up alternator, or belt tensioner. The fan belt [ drive belt ] turns the alternator to charge the battery, the power steering pump to make easy steering , and the water pump cooling your engine. Do you smell rubber burning? hear a squealing noise? or rattling noise. Open your engine bonnet, start the car up, and look at the drive belt and pulleys. They should all be turning. If this is the problem you will see something seized up. Also if you have let the power steering pump run out of oil, it may also be seized. Good luck with it

older model altima need drive belt tension adjustment at 7500 miles intervals, the new models altimas has a automatic belt tensioner.i you hear noises belt tensioner could be failing.or could have leaking coolant getting on drive belt due to water pump gasket leaking or pump leaking.or alternator power steering pump could be failing many things will cause drive belt to make high squeak noises.

I took my 2005 Chev. Malibu in for an oil change and now it is making a loud noise from the engine. they say its the water pump? is that possible?

  • Hi, I can help.
  • When your water pump goes bad it will begin to grind. I had one I let got far to long and it sounded deafening when I opened the hood. You can open your hood and listen and see for yourself. The water pump is on the belt line, left side under the hood, last pulley toward the rear.
  • Now if your asking can an oil change effect the water pump? No, not at all. Water pumps go sporadically.
  • It would be odd that you heard no noises before the oil change and now the water pump is loud enough to take notice after the oil change. The bearings usually go a little slower than that.

  • I would be interested in some more of the details to this. And what your overall concerns are. I'd be happy to further. help. Otherwise get a second opinion on your cars condition.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

The water pump bearings could be going out and they will make a grinding noise. The water pump doesn't always leak when the bearings are going out.
