Automatic overdrive and/or torque converter failure. Properly check your trans. fluid level. Might be as simple as that. It should be at proper level, and red in color. Hopefully all you need is a tranny fluid exchange service....do the filter as well. Hope this is helpful.
Ck your fluid level in the trans and shift through all the gears manually. You may want to replace the trans vacuum. modulator. It's inexpensive and easy to replace. Good Luck.
U are going to need to overhaul the transmission here, the smoke is the trans overheating from excessive slippage i suspect.code for wrong gear ratio's mean the input and output shaft speed are out of symc for the gear the trans is in, the 3rd or 4th gear is the usual codes, this sometimes is caused by defective speed sensors but most times the trans is slipping and the TCM detects that and sets a code
The trans has a built in limp mode if it detects a problem. More than likely there is something else wrong,
Try to reset it first. Turn the vehicle on and off 3 full times and then start it and see if it starts out in first. If you then fell it lurch and go back into limp mode have it scanned to see. It could be the trans computer, a sensor or a hard problem internal to the trans. Hope this helps.
28 years rebuilding trans and factory trained by chrysler on that trans.,
My 2003 Siverado has 65.000 miles on the automatic tranny. It is starting to slip going from 2nd gear into 3rd gear. Do I needa rebuild or what?. Thanks.
