You do not specify which containers or resevoir, but I'll assume the ones under the hood. The one against the firewall with 2 lines going in is the brake and holds brake fluid. The one on the front of the engine with a pulley attached is power steering pump and holds power steering fluid. A normally white plastic one holds water for the windshield washer.

Coolant in 50% concentration goes into the coolant overflow bottle. Windshield wiper fluid into the wiper fluid bottle. Power steering fluid into the power steering fluid bottle.
You do not need to add any other fluids to these. Do not add water to the washer fluid bottle for example, if you drive in a climate that would allow it to freeze.

Why does mybrake resevoir over flow when i depress the brake caliper

Hello Justin, Since you just replaced the brake pads, you had to push the caliper pistons into the bores. That pushed the brake fluid into the master cylinder and overfilled it. I suggest you obtain an inexpensive turkey baster. ( I got mine from the dollar store.) Use it to suck out as much brake fluid from the master cylinder as you can. DO NOT spill any brake fluid on you or the car finish. It WILL damage painted surfaces. Refill the master cylinder with new brake fluid of the proper DOT specs for your auto. I also suggest you bleed the old fluid out of the brake hoses and lines . Over time, brake fluid attracts moisture and turns a dark color. It is also good to bleed out any air that might be in your braking system.

I have a thick dark brown sludge in my antifreez resevoir tank is it oil or really old antifreeze?

Usually antifreeze and oil mixing causes a dark whiteish milkshake consistancy liquid so if its a dark color i'd guess its REALLY old antifreeze with a lot of corrosion from your engine. Get it flushed and changed a.s.a.p. and hope it didnt mess it up to bad.

Windshield washer liquid leaking

Could be a couple of things ,,,, If the washer resevoir frooze in the recent past it could have split the motor/bottle or hoses attached, it may also be the anti return valve (Y shaped) on the hose work split and causing a drip !

I was told to put stop leak into the radiator, but the radiator cap doesn't go directly into the radiator it goes into a resevoir first. Is it still ok to put the stop leak in here?

take the top radiator hose off and pour it in there....and use the crush type tablets instead of the liquid stufff...prestone makes them and they work better and dont plug **** up....good luck..lee

I believe I may have a bad hose leading to the resevoir that holds the antifreeze or maybe the resevoir itself is cracked?

It could be the hose. Unless your car has ever been hit on that side, the reservoir usually outlasts the hoses.
You can easily test the hose. Unclamp it from the reservoir bottle when the coolant is not hot, plug the end with your finger and hold the hose down lower than the other end that is attached to the radiator fill neck. Look for leaks.

To check for cracks in the reservoir, it's easiest to place a flashlight inside the bottle top and look at the outside of the bottle...if liquid can get out then light can too.

Cooling system

1)yes steam will come out of the resevoir, especially with a bad rad'cap.
2)thermostats are cheap.
does your cooling fan come on?,it may be a bad sensor or relay (for fan)
3)no heat in car!?,the water pump may be bad.or the heater core is plugged,or if you have:a bad coolant valve for cab heat.(but this wont cause motor-over heating issues!)
4)you have a plugged radiator!

--sounds like a bad waterpump to me.
even if it doesnt leak, the impellers still come loose from the shaft!!
