It might be you fuel regulator it will be leaking very little but enough to get that gas smell in the cab.  Becarful not to misjudge it for the 4 injector leaking cause gas will run down right on top of it.  It sits on top of your fuel rail and it has a vacum line and a fuel line going to it. It it is leaking it will more than likly be from the rolled metal round piece buy the vacum side.  Its an easy fix but it cost aroun $60.

It may be you have a bad injector or fuel rail or a bad intake gasket i would also stop by my local library and get my hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your car Merry Christmas & Happy New Year as always wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.

Strong gas odor inside van and outside. Check engine light came on today. No leaks drives fine. just passed emmissions 4days ago

Good thing you passed before the engine light came on. You should mos def get the code from that engine light. If you smell gas you have a leak in the system. Same thing happened to me i had to drop the tank and change the seal around the lid of the fuel pump housing because the smell was coming from under the car and in the car. I also followed my fuel lines and saw some cracks forming so i replaced those and the gas cap for the heck of it. Only $20 for everything but make sure to pull the code first. It reslly makes things easier.

Check the fuel hose and clamps from the filler to the tank .check hose for cracks . The smell will probably be strongest in the boot.

Turns over well but is slow to fire off sometime. Can smell gas fumes inside the car as well as the outside. No black smoke from ehaust and no fuel leaks.

if you smell gas YOU DO have a fuel leak.... make sure your gas cap is good and or tight, also might want to look at your fuel pressure regulator.. the fuel system is pretty simple... let me know!

Grand am smells like gas inside the car

I would definatly recheck the regulator to make certain you do not have any leaks.
But to be clear, you are smelling gas and not exhaust?
Also, is you cowl seal in good shape, not missing or damaged in any way?
Let me know.
Regards,
