1993 540i bmw .i tried starting the car but it woud'nt start ,i first thought it was petrol so put some more in in .The car just swings but does not start.

sounds like the starter motor isn't releasing bendix spring ,try hitting starter firmly but carefully a few times, then try starting may get you going ,if does get a new starter.Replacing the battery with a bigger size isn't a good idea what was the difference in amp hour out put ?
running out of fuel sucks the dirt off the bottom of the tank it might have caused it to fail i think you can get to it from under the back seat you can see if the pump has power there as well
Hi, Unfortunately, snow my have gotten jammed into sensitive electrical connections or actually disconnected a connection. The BMW will need to be warmed up and all the snow melted so a diagnosis can be preformed. Way to many possibilities to guess at. The BMW's computer will help in the trouble shooting process after it has been dried out. Wayne
