If your missing only 1 brake light, then the switch and fuse are ok,
You need to test the wire right before the socket with a test light to verify you have power to socket,But yes sockets go bad

Right rear turn signal lamp out. replaced bulbs, sockets. tested power in socket; good. new brake light switch. still my brake light and turn signal doesnt work.

If you have power in the socket you either have a bad bulb or a bad ground. The turn and stop light are the same wire and same filament in the bulb.

Tail light brake light wont work on driver side. The top light works but brake light wont. I change bulbs 2 times.

Alot of times the socket gets deformed from heat and doesnt make contact. The thing to do is check for voltage at the wire going into the socket, as well as the term. in the socket. Also, you might have to attach a ground wire to the bulb, that is also a problem. Now if you dont have voltage on -In the Socket, you may have a broken wire, in the harness.

Tail lights/turn signals and driver brake lights work, passenger-side brake light doesn't

Find a multimerter or an ohmmeter and someone to work it and test the socket to see if electricity is getting to the bulb. Someone will need to push on the brake pedal whilst someone else tests it.
Sometimes a wire can break, or sometimes a metal contact inside the socket can go bad, or can bend in such a manner that the bulb no longer contacts it. Also, sometimes new bulbs are defective.
Be blessed.

THAT RIGHT IF BRAKE SWITCH BAD NO BRAKE LIGHT WILL WORK.SPRAY ELECTRICAL CLEANER IN BULB SOCKET BULB SOCKET COULD HAVE OXIDATION AND CORROSSION CAUSING POOR CONTACT.

How do you change the brake light on chevrolet caprice 1992

Hello Friend:

To change your brake light on your Car is Done from inside your Trunk, You'll need to open trunk, and on either side there is a cover on the left and right side,That will be removeable.

Just remove the cover with your Hands and it will expose your Wiring to your bulbs and you'll see a metel socket that holds your Light Bulbs, Just turn or Pull that socket out that the Wiring goes to.

Now you can remove your bad bulb and replace it with a new one.

on a Caprice you'll have 2-3 Bulbs in the Lighting assembly just have someone Push down the Brake Pedal. So you can see the Light thats not Working.

This will get your Brake Light Working. Since its only 1- Bulb thats out Eliminates that you have a Bad Brake Light Switch. If both sides are out it could be your brake light swith.

Sir I'm sure this will solve your problem,I thank you for Using FixYa

My brake lights don't work and it's not the fuse. I don't know how long they have been off. I got pulled over and i was told they didn't work

first get a 12-volt tester and test the socket if the sockets are good check the brake light switch on top of the brake pedal itself and check all of the fuses too.
