Make sure the cooling system is not plugged up, poor coolant flow can make your engine run hot, and a plugged heater core will not allow heat in the cabin in the winter.

I HAVE 2004 MONTE CARLO. THE HOT COOLANT TEMP LIGHT HAS COME A FEW TIMES. THE HEATER ONLY BLOWS COLD AIR FOR A BIT AND THEN EVENTUALLY HEATS UP. THE CAR NEVER SEEMS TO RUN HOT THOUGH. I HAVE BEEN TOLD...

A blown head gasket is usually easy to confirm. The head gasket prevents the engine coolant and oil from mixing under the head. If you have a blown head gasket, you should be able to see bubbles of water/cooland on the dip stick when you check your oil.

I do agree that with your heater taking a while to get warm, it probably has some build-up in the system that needs to be flushed out, before it causes other issues.

Best of luck!

1990 Ford Escort GT is fine in cold weather, but when it get hot so does the car I mean very hot gauge is in the danger level.

1) Check & see if rad fan comes on when temp reaches normal operating range.
2) Consider flushing rad & changing thermostat if not done already.
Let me know about fan
