There is no snap ring but rear brake drums often bind to the hub with a rust bond. A trick mechanics use is take a hammer and hit the drum solidly between the studs like you are trying to pound the drum ON.(being careful not to damage them - screw the lug nuts on a couple turns to protect them.) This can actually disturb the rust bond and break it loose. Hitting the drum on the outer edge like you are trying to knock it sideways also helps, but can distort the drum.

Sometimes there a clip over the stud were the lug nut goes you would see it once the wheel is off, try hitting drum with a hammer in front to break free, if drum is loose but wont come all the way off then you will have to unadjust the brake adjuster ,its done through a window on the rear of the backing plate ( backside of were the drum is,) hope this helps.

1998 Chevy Express Van I change the rear brakes the drums in the hardware I have a loud pulsating vibration in the rear when I press the brakes can it be my anti lock brakes sensors lost help me

Doubtful it has anything to do with the ABS. Sounds as if the rear brakes are over adjusted or you have an out of round drum. Even though being new, I have experienced many problems with brake drums especially if they are not brand name

How do I change rear wheel bearing on 2009 k12 nissan micra

That should be in the service manual: You can search for one using Google and this in the search box: "2009 k12 nissan micra service manual" without the quotes, it should show a lot of different sources for one.

How to get drum pads off a 2000 dodge caravan

The pad drums of your 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan can wear with use. Heat buildup in the brakes can glaze, warp or crack the drum. If that happens, replacement of the drum is the only way to fix it. In most cases, you can remove the rear drums, replace them with a new set and leave the existing shoes on the van. Take a minute and inspect the brake shoes thoroughly while you have the drums off the van.

  1. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear of your 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan with a lug wrench. Do not take them off the wheel studs.
  2. Raise the rear of the van with a jack and support it on a set of jack stands. Place the stands under the rear suspension, making sure they are secure. Remove the lug nuts from the wheel studs and pull off the rear wheels.
  3. Check the rear drum where the wheel studs come through for retaining clips. These are used during the manufacturing process; and if they are still on your van, they need to be removed. Pry the clip off the wheel stud with a flat head screwdriver and discard them. Most vehicles will have two clips on each brake drum.
  4. Grasp the brake drum on the outer edges and pull it straight off the wheel studs and brake pads. Discard the old drum and slide the new drum into place, aligning the holes in the drum with the wheel studs. Push the drum in until it seats completely. Repeat the process on the opposite side of the van.
  5. Position the wheel back on the wheel studs and install the lug nuts by hand. Raise the back of the van with a jack and remove the jack stands from under the suspension. Lower the van to the ground and tighten the lug nuts with a lug wrench.

My '83 dodge ram van goes in reverse fine, but when i try to go forward, the R rear wheel spins, seems the L rear is jamming?? is this a diff or brake issue?

sometimes the emergency brake will stick even after it is released. Most drum brakes will still let it go backwards but not forward. I would pull the rear drums and check. If e/brake is stuck removing the left drum will be difficult. If so then you will have to manually adjust the brakes until drum loosens up. good luck

1999 Dodge Ram 1500 conversion van rear brake hammering

Are the brake shoes on right, there are two size shoes, One shoe has a longer brake lining then the other. The short brake lining is towards the front of the van and the longer brake lining is towards the rear. The rear brakes also may need to be adjusted, you can do that by going in revers in a empty parking lot and push the brakes as hard as you can to stop the van. Don't give your self a whip lash, just push down gradually and as far to the floor you can about 7 to 10 times. The self adjusters should adjust the brake on both sides, try this first before you take the brakes apart again. It may just need a adjustment and after that check the brake fluid in the master cylinder. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, be glad to help

Cant get the rear brake drums off

very tricky to adjust them down they do sv<k . Keep at it you need two tools a small screwdriver to move the spring out of the way and a brake adjuster tool to turn the star wheel.
Dont ever hit the outside rim of a drum it is now warped and deformed most likely unuseable now. Hit between the studs only. Also I recomend that if you are just checking them to have shoes ,hardware and wheel cylinders ready to be put ,in every caravan I work on needs everything replaced. Also this style of drum brakes is tricky it has two spreader bars and alot of springs. If you are not an experianced auto tech I would recomened you take it to one.
