Possible head gasket put in wrong or possible. make sure radiator cooling fan is coming on. The smoke could be remaining from the water standing in the exhaust if it is fixed it will take a while for that to burn off. Check the timing on the timing belt. change your thermostat. Have your radiator checked for flow. If it is plugged replace it. Intake could be leaking to cause the fluctuating idle. The throttle body can cause the idle to search. Also the timing off can do that.If possible do a combustion leak test in the coolant
WHITE SMOKE INDICATE SLIGHT HEAD GASKET.STOP SMOKING WHEN ENGINE GET HOT.HEAD EXPANDS ENOUGH TO STOP THE LEAK.BUT I SEEN CASES WHERE THE HEADS HAD TO BE PRE TORQUE AFTER ENGINE OVERHAUL.ALSO YOUR ENGINE WILL USE OIL UNTIL PISTON RINGS SEAT.SO KEEP EYE ON OIL LEVEL.
is it blue or black smoke?
if its blue smoke you have a worn engine / overfilled oil....
if its black you may have ignition trouble/ fuel mixture problem...
test the sparkplugs and ignition leads first...
check the oil level...
if you have any oily sparklugs i would suspect piston ring problem, or valve wear - could be time to install oil control rings (if applicable)
Black plugs would indicate an over-rich mixture or poor spark...
replace the HT lead assoc. with the blackened plug, and the spark plug itself.. this may sort your problem for a few bucks.
If it's a piston ring or valve problem you need to overhaul the engine - or if you just want to pass the inspection then deal with the problem later you could use an oil additive such as STP "stop smoke", this thickens your oil and reduces the amount that will get past the pistons into the combustion chamber, in some cases it pretty much solves the problem - especially if the engine is in good condition apart from worn rings...
But overhaul is always best, its upto personal choice in that respect and the size of your wallet.
If your engine is not misfiring but it vibrates too much while idling your motor mounts might be getting worn out. I had a Nissan with bad motor mounts. I was ok in park but when you put it in gear it vibrated a lot. It smoothed right out as soon as you started moving.
I have toyota corona 3s engine it smokes black and fuel consuption is high we have changed the engine oil and cylinderhead gassecate but still black smoke is comming what should i do
